The ‘Edito’
Dear All,
We are all looking forward to Spring, with the hope it will bring good news on the health front and make it possible to return to a more “convivial” life.
As many of you know, one of the Fédération’s purposes is to ‘develop closer social, philosophical, commercial and cultural relations between the French and the British people’. In that context, we have decided to now issue our Newsletter both in French and in English, with a view to facilitating exchanges between the two communities.
We will thus summarise, both in English and in French, the Agenda of the Month.
We will put the Spotlight on the Franco-British Lawyers’ Society, a prestigious institution aiming to facilitate exchanges of ideas between members of the legal community on both sides of the Channel and increasing friendship among them - a mission which is all the more important and relevant in this post-Brexit era.
Our Personality of the Month is Xuan Pollard, who has just been elected President of Consultations Gratuites, an association of Solicitors and Barristers who volunteer to meet with, and provide free advice to, disadvantaged French and French-speaking people who find themselves facing difficult legal issues.
We will discuss the (digital) Initiative taken by the singers of Barcarolle Choir to carry on despite the pandemic.
Last but not least, following our Workshop held on 3 February, we will invite you to join our two upcoming Workshops in March. The first one, scheduled on 3 March, will focus on the impact of the new Immigration rules on the associations (including their ability to recruit EU citizens, etc.) and will endeavour to provide concrete solutions in that regard. The second one, scheduled on 24 March, will discuss what lies ahead for the associations and charities in a post-Covid world. Rather than focussing on the current – morose – situation, we will discuss the future and what changes can be expected in the coming months (increased digitalisation, etc.), and how we can all prepare for them. We hope you will enjoy this Newsletter.
Take care and stay safe,
On behalf of the team,

The Agenda
A quick overview of some of the great events you may wish to attend in the coming weeks.
The Personality of the Month
We have had the pleasure to interview Xuan Pollard, who has just been appointed President of the association “Consultations Gratuites” last month. We discussed the reasons why she joined the association and accepted to become its President, the challenges that lie ahead, and her ambitions for the association.

The Fédération’s Workshops

A huge thanks to the more than 45 charity representatives who attended our Workshop on the 3rd of February. The Fédération will host two Workshops in March: one on ‘Post-Brexit Immigration: what impact for my association/organisation?’ will be held on Wednesday 3 March at 6pm; the other one on ‘Associations and charities in a post-Covid world – what changes and how to adapt?’ on Wednesday 24 March (also at 6pm).

The Initiative of the Month
We will discuss an original (and digital) initiative taken by the singers of Barcarolle Choir to carry on despite the pandemic
In the Spotlight
The association we put in the spotlight this month is the Franco-British Lawyers’ Society. We have been privileged to discuss/meet (online) with three of its eminent members: Simon Horsington, Honorary Vice-President and Founder, Leonardo Carpentieri, President of the London Section, and Charles du Couëdic de Kerérant, General Secretary. They have all accepted to tell us a bit more about this prestigious organisation.
