Report Release – Transmission Planning for the 21st Century: Proven Practices that Increase Value and Reduce Costs

On Thursday, October 7, 2021, the Brattle Group and Grid Strategies released a report – Transmission Planning for the 21st Century: Proven Practices that Increase Value and Reduce Costs – laying out proven planning practices and core principles with which transmission planning can achieve reliable and efficient solutions capable of meeting the needs of the evolving 21st century power system at a lower total system cost. They include:
  • Proactively plan for future generation and load.
  • Account for the full range of transmission projects’ benefits.
  • Address uncertainties and high-stress grid conditions explicitly through scenario-based planning.
  • Use comprehensive transmission network portfolios.
  • Jointly plan across neighboring interregional systems.
