Joint Statement Sent to FERC in Support of Large-Scale Transmission

Tuesday, October 12, 2021 – In response to the Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANOPR) on regional transmission planning, cost allocation and generator interconnection issued in July by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), over two dozen organizations sent a letter to FERC Commissioners expressing their support for large-scale transmission.

The letter demonstrates the incredibly broad support for expanding inter-regional transmission. The unusual set of strange bedfellows supporting FERC action on transmission includes conservatives, utilities, NGOs, labor unions, state energy officials, agricultural, rural, clean energy, and environmental organizations. This diverse coalition demonstrates that expanding the inter-regional transmission grid delivers a wide range of economic, security, and public health benefits.

The letter identifies several ways electricity users benefit from transmission, such as enhancing reliability through the mitigation of threats like Winter Storm Uri and facilitating the transition to clean energy to achieve decarbonization goals.

Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG) is the only non-profit broad-based public interest advocacy coalition focused on the need to expand, integrate, and modernize the North American high-voltage grid.

ACEG brings together the diverse support for an expanded and modernized grid from business, labor, consumer and environmental groups, and other transmission supporters to support policy which recognizes the benefits of a robust transmission grid.
