A Note from Nathan's Office
These past 6 weeks have been another busy one. We put in a new heating system in our shop which has been great for our nice mild winter (not complaining there). We have started working on winter projects and getting them ready for spring. Huston has enjoyed taking all 200 of our rotary hoe wheels off and changing them out. Jake has been making some upgrades and changes to our manure spreader.  A couple years ago we updated the spinners and put a larger spinner on to get a better coverage pattern with our manure but by doing that we found a weak spot in our spinner motors.  So our local dealer was very helpful and got new motors up to us quickly so we can get them ready for spring manure.

If you remember back to January, we replaced our truck from the accident and have named that 903 (after grandpa Engelhard). Secondly, long before all of the accident happened we took an opportunity to add to our fleet and replaced 819 with a new truck.  We are getting ready for what at this time looks like it could be an early or more normal spring.  We continue to get things done in the office and improve our operations for the upcoming year.
I spent the last week of February in sunny San Antonio for the second phase of the Young Leader Program through the American Soybean Association. It took place during the Commodity Classic, so I had a blast walking the floor and checking out new equipment and catching up with friends. While I was there. I  was able to learn more about the soybean industry as well are how to share our farming passion with consumers more effectively. I also met Lawson's favorite celebrity, the Millennial Farmer. Check out his YouTube channel if you're not familiar with his videos.

Dustin and I will also be representing the farm at the Tuscola County Farm Bureau Ag Career and Technology Night in a few weeks at the Technology Center. We are excited to talk with high school youth about the vast careers in agriculture as well as at our farm. Look for pictures in a few weeks!
A Note From Dustin

Meeting season is currently in full swing as we approach spring time. With this, you would be lucky to find us in the office on any given week as we have done tons of traveling already this year and we're only a few months in!

I attend the Lansing Legislative Seminar through Michigan Farm Bureau at the end of February. In the past, you have heard us describe this conference as a great opportunity to learn about the legislative happenings in Lansing and meet with our State Reps to discuss policy. This year the conference was joined by the Vice President of the United State, Mike Pence, and Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue. It was quite the experience to have the current administration in Michigan talking with farmers for the day. I will also be attending the Washington Legislative Seminar in the middle of March, so check out our Facebook page for photo updates!

Technology upgrades have swept through the farm recently. The trucks are going to a system that supports GPS, email, and other applications we use in the trucking business. We also upgraded email addresses across the board to, so be on the lookout for the new email addresses from all us here. You can still reach us at our old email address also. The 5 e fam represent the 5 generations of the Engelhard Family who came before us and the ones currently on the farm, something we are very proud of. Additionally I received a computer upgrade and dual monitors for my desk, something I am very excited about and looking forward to the usefulness of the setup.

We are still many days away from being in the field but you can expect to see more equipment on the roads soon as we get prepared for the upcoming spring. As always, if you have questions about our farm, agriculture, or just want to talk feel free to reach out.

Community and Family News
Amy invited Dustin to come to the Sebewaing Rotary club on March  to share all about the farm and what we're up to. If you haven't had a chance to hear Dustin speak, you are missing out! He knocked it out of the park and all of our members in attendance walked away with a better knowledge of our farming operation as well as all of the programs that we're involved in. If you would like to attend a Rotary meeting, please check us out every Tuesday at The Lamplighter in Sebewaing!

Amy has also been busy with the Christ the King School Board and she is looking forward to having Lawson attend preschool at the Little Knights program in the Fall. She is also working on coordinating Adopt-A-Highway pick up it the Tuscola County Farm Bureau for spring, summer and fall and hoping to apply to more leadership programs for personal development.
