Mark Your Calendars!
Alpenglow park is officially open and the Old Farm District is co-hosting their grand opening event on July 15th. In addition to the park's many awesome features, there will be live music and if you drop by the Old Farm District tent, you can register for some extra cool prizes. Next to the neighborhood association tent will be a huge two story bouncy slide and a separate Axe Throwing event, both will be free to use and try courtesy of the OFDNA. (Axe throwing requires close toed shoes, and adult supervision / permission if under 18). A large free Zumba fitness event, and live Latin dance music at the outdoor stage. Rock climbing tutorials for all skill levels in the bouldering area. Free Ice cream. Numerous local nonprofits will be in attendance and providing other forms of entertainment and gifts. "Good" dog friendly, with multiple off leash areas and agility course. AND a new to Bend, Splash Pad area to help keep the family cool
It's a great way to come out and meet your neighbors and others in your community, all while enjoying a fine Friday evening with the whole family. Why not walk or ride your bikes! Parking is limited, but there will be overflow parking at nearby Caldera High School with a free shuttle back and forth to the park.
Volunteers Needed!
If you would like to get involved, Parks and Rec has asked for a few volunteers to assist with tent setup and tear down, walking around and directing folks to various locations of the park, answering questions, etc. Please contact Julie Brown with Parks and Rec at Julie@bendparksandrec.org

Brosterhous Accessibility
Project Update
June 30, 2022
During the first school year at Caldera High School, pedestrians and bicyclists used the northbound lane of Brosterhous Road for safe access through the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad undercrossing. At the end of the school year, the northbound lane of Brosterhous Road was re-opened to vehicle traffic.
WHAT’S NEXT?
- Upcoming Work
Flashing beacons and associated signage will be installed this summer for the crosswalks at SE Orchard Grass Place and The Pines West entrance. Flaggers will direct traffic for this work.
- Final Phase
Construction of the sidewalk under the railroad undercrossing is anticipated to occur later this year. We are working with BNSF Railroad to schedule the final phase of construction. This construction will require closure of the northbound lane of Brosterhous Road at the railroad undercrossing.

Bicycle Safety - eBikes and Kids
Bicycle use in Bend is growing, which is great. Between privately owned and bike-share companies, the number of eBikes in Bend is also seeing a significant increase. Along with these rising numbers , so are the number of incidents related to poor bike safety and etiquette, with bicyclists failing to follow basic rules of the road and endangering themselves and motorists.
Bend police are concerned about issues arising with underage people on electric bikes, as a little-known state law makes it illegal for anyone under 16 to operate an e-bike or motorized scooter.
Below are two links:
- The Oregon Bicyclist Manual with rules and safety tips
- KTVZ Article reminding parents that kids under 16 cannot legally operate an eBike
Time for a safety refresher? Yep.
