True this is my third Becheur pick in five months. The Napa Cab and old vine Mourvedre preceeded the Syrah. What gives? In Joe-ese, here's the deal: the Becheur wines are delicious, interesting, rare and fantastic values. Plus I'm a big fan of the man behind Becheur, Michael Terrien. Both of us appreciate wines that are both compelling and universally appealing.

Add negociant to Terrien's bio, alongside winemaker and businessman, with the creation of Becheur. Small lots of wine (4 barrels of this Syrah) that no longer fit in the "mystery winery's" plans are purchased, bottled and sold for a smokin' good prices. This is a new venture, one that is and may always be a side gig for Michael.

The Becheur Syrah comes from the rugged hillsides of Mt Veeder. The "source" mistakenly toppped off its 2016 Syrah with 2015, making if legally a non-vintage wine. This unfortunate misfit of a wine found a home with Becheur.

My tasting notes: Deep, purplish-red color. Savory aroma full of Syrah goodness: dry aged beef, black peppercorns, oiled leather, black olive. Don’t forget the blackberry/blueberry…it takes a couple of minutes to emerge then BAM you get a basket of berries too. Everything’s integrated, soft tannins, dandy acidity, seamless transitions from nose to taste, taste to finish. Is this really “just” $20? You betcha, more or less. Read about Becheur’s
dynamic pricing system

I don't take payment nor commission from Becheur for this promotion. Except wine, that is, which is perfect because I only recommend wines I like to drink!
Wednesday morning tasting. Poppin' and rockin' with the Becheur Syrah. I'm having it tonight with a feta-brined roast chicken with arugula and spuds. Ask me tomorrow how it turned out.
Life is a highway.
