It's the best time of year to recommend Zinfandel, don't you think? Linen season is here. We're cooking outside, over fire. And many of us are vaccinated and slowly returning to our respective definitions of normal. Today I suggest you pick up a couple of Zinfandels that are not normal. They are exceptional, and ideal for the season and our times.

David Clinton Winery is an outstanding nano-winery created by David Huang and Clint Holdsworth. They do it all (except for the grape growing). Their first commercial vintage was 2010 (they were home winemakers prior) and I've had the privilege of tasting every wine they've made. These 2017 David Clinton Zins are great, and I think the best they've made to date. If you like California Zinfandel, you will like the '17 David Clintons. A lot.

David Clinton Zinfandel "Mounts Vineyard - Old Vines" Dry Creek Valley 2017 ($30) is deep in its dark berry and pomegranate fruits. Cocoa and sasafrass quickly emerge in this low tannin, low acid, super-generous Zin.  91 DDWA, Awesome Value.

David Clinton Zinfandel "Teldeschi Vineyard - Ancient Vines" Dry Creek Valley 2017 ($32) is sourced from 130 year old vines! While the "Mounts" is more fruit-focused, the "Teldeschi" is is first and foremost about the spice. Cracked black pepper, Moroccan spices (cinnamon, cumin, allspice, dry ginger, nutmeg...), Amaro. Spice takes the lead with cherry/raspberry liqueur, pomegranate and wild strawberry backing up. I think this is the better wine of the two, but it's totally subjective. 92 DDWA, Great Value. Full review.

David Clinton is offering my readers a great deal. 15% off (discount code DDWA) with free local delivery and 1 cent shipping on purchases of 6 or more bottles. I suggest you buy some of both Zins and enjoy their distinction.
