In addition to the wonderful Kevin Mark (see his profile in the September newsletter), we will also hear from Souheil Saab, a senior lawyer with the Law Society of Alberta and Board Member of Spinal Cord Injury Association Alberta for 10 years. Souheil is a paraplegic as a result of a motorcycle accident 23 years ago. He has first hand knowledge of the challenges that persons with mobility issues face and the importance of advocating for oneself and others. Since his accident, Souheil has lived in six different homes which he had to modify to make wheelchair accessible. He has a lot of personal experience with discovering what does and does not work and what will make living with mobility challenge easier.
We're excited to make a difference in another kid's life. In fact, two kids’ lives! We had more nominations than ever before, and we have made the difficult decision of choosing who our next ARK Kids will be. Stay tuned to find out who they are! Spoiler alert: one of our next ARK Kids is a super adorable little girl!
We'll be making the official announcement in our next newsletter so be ready to meet the next ARK Kids and learn how ARK will Reshape Their Worlds!
OUR NEW VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHT SERIES
We're excited to announce our new initiative to say thanks to our many volunteers. We'll be highlighting one of our volunteer members in each of our upcoming newsletters and also on social media.
This month we'd like to introduce Simrit Rai, ARK's Onboarding Specialist.
Simrit believes that ARK’s mission to aid children with mobility issues is vital to the community and joined to be part of that mission. Her favourite part of working with ARK is meeting and working with the volunteers and the community. The enthusiasm that everyone has for ARK’s mission inspires her to give back to her community.
Simrit is a second-year university student, majoring in psychology and biological sciences. She loves to sing, learn, and also enjoys photography. Along with her work at ARK, she volunteers with AHS and is a mentor for international students. She's also learning French on her own.
Simrit is a great asset to the ARK team and we thank her, and all of our volunteers, for everything they do for us.
