Highlights: DVS Public Engagement in May

Housing & Support Services Training
Our Housing and Support Services team hosted two training sessions for city government and local non-profit partners. With over 120 guests in attendance, the trainings featured presentations from the NYC Department of Homeless Services, NYC Human Resources Administration, NYC Housing Authority, NYC Hosing Preservation and Development, HRA's Public Engagement Unit, HRA's Public Engagement Unit, and Bronxworks. With a dual emphasis on subsidies and housing, the trainings served as an important opportunity to bridge gaps in understanding and strengthen inter-agency relationships. This helps to ensure that all parties involved with housing our city’s homeless veterans are as well-equipped as possible to do so.
Flanders Fields Memorial
Deputy Commissioner Roth presented a proclamation on behalf of the Mayor to Mr. Geert De Proost, General Delegate of the Government of Flanders, Belgium to the United States, at the Annual In Flanders Fields Memorial at the De Witt Clinton Park in Manhattan on Thursday, 5/24.
Theater of War Performance
This Fleet Week Theater of War (TOW) performance was held at Four Freedoms Park on Roosevelt Island. Actors Kathryn Erbe, Glenn Davis, and Zach Grenier performed a dramatic reading of scenes from Sophocles' Ajax and Philoctetes.
TOW combines theater and public forums that engage both veterans and civilians in community-specific performances that foster health and healing through open discussion and exchange.
SUS Genesis II Residence
Senior Veteran Peer Coordinator and U.S. Navy Veteran Lamarr Wheeler shared words of gratitude in remembrance of the fallen service men and women at the Memorial Day Observance on the SUS Genesis II Residence.
