Trump's VA is ending a rescue program that's saved 17,000 military veterans' homes
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs says it will end a mortgage rescue plan that has saved nearly 20,000 veterans from needlessly losing their homes.

NPR — The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs said Thursday that it will end a mortgage-rescue program designed to help veterans who have fallen behind on their mortgages keep their homes.

But the scant details offered so far by the VA make it unclear whether the program will be replaced by a different rescue program — or whether the move will strand thousands of other vets, many of whom are in financial peril because of the VA's own mistakes.

Tens of thousands of veterans were left facing foreclosure after the VA abruptly cancelled a key part of a pandemic-era mortgage relief program that allowed vets to skip mortgage payments if they had trouble paying. A Message From Mayor Adams:
Each week DVS shares a brief update about how our administration is getting stuff done for New Yorkers.
Our administration works every day to create a more affordable city for every New Yorker, and that means creating new, affordable housing in every neighborhood. Last week, the City Planning Commission voted in favor of the Atlantic Avenue Mixed-Use Plan, a proposal that will bring 4,600 new homes and 2,800 permanent jobs to a 21-block stretch of Atlantic Avenue in Central Brooklyn. Over in Queens, we announced the public review of the Jamaica neighborhood plan, which will create nearly 12,000 new homes, 7,000 new jobs, and invest $300 million in sewer improvements, more resilient streets, and new public space. Across the five boroughs, we are continuing to address the city’s housing crisis by advancing bold, transformational housing projects that will create thousands of jobs and homes, ensuring we make New York City the best place to raise a family. At DVS, no matter where you are in your housing journey, we have the resources you need to get where you're going. Our housing team is standing by to connect New York City Veterans to the housing services that are right for them. Visit nyc.gov/vetconnect to connect to housing services.
