Financial Assistance Support for Post-9/11 New York Veterans and their Families

Originally designed to meet short-term needs in the days following an injury, the Critical Needs program has expanded to assist various populations of our military; including, post-9/11 combat-wounded veterans and their families, post-9/11 homeless veterans, as well as post-9/11 veterans who are survivors of MST as they navigate through long-term recovery.

Hope For The Warriors’ Critical Needs program assists service members, veterans and their families in two specific ways.

  1. Program coordinators provide integrated case management, financial education, with an emphasis on long-term financial stability, and resource referrals that assist the warrior both today and in the future.
  2. If the warrior meets program eligibility criteria, financial support may be provided to assist the family in the short-term.

Thousands of Veterans Affairs employees must return to work by the end of the month under an announcement by the department Monday.

In response to a Jan. 20 directive from President Donald Trump, the VA announced that eligible employees must work full time in VA facilities. In a press release Monday, the department spelled out which of its roughly 96,000 employees who now work remotely or telework must comply.

"This is a commonsense step toward treating all VA employees equally," Acting VA Secretary Todd Hunter said in a statement. "Most VA clinical staff don't have the luxury of working remotely, and we believe the performance, collaboration and productivity of the department will improve if all VA employees are held to the same standard."

According to the press release, more than 20% of the VA's 479,000 employees work remotely. Some will be exempt from the requirement, including those who receive approval for a disability, medical condition or other "compelling reason," according to the announcement. [READ MORE...]

A Message From Mayor Adams:
Each week DVS shares a brief update about how our administration is getting stuff done for New Yorkers.
Our administration works every day to create a more affordable city, and that means launching initiatives aimed to deliver more jobs for New Yorkers. For the eighth time under our administration, we’ve set a record with over 4.7 million jobs, the highest in our city’s history. This week’s "Jobs Week" announcements are connecting even more New Yorkers to employment — whether by helping grow small businesses already here or encouraging more companies to bring their jobs to the five boroughs. We are focused on putting more New Yorkers to work and ensuring NYC is more affordable and the best place to raise a family. At DVS, through our Veteran Business Leadership Association, we collaborate with SBS and a network of public and private partners to equip veteran entrepreneurs with the tools, resources and connections they need to run and grow their veteran business in New York City .
