Why veterans are the real target audience for ‘Helldivers 2’
"Helldivers 2" makes players feel like they're a cog in a machine that only half works and is pointed in the wrong direction — which can feel very familiar for some vets. Screenshot via PlayStation.

Task & Purpose — There’s a special kind of chaos in “Helldivers 2” — one that feels oddly familiar to anyone ever sent on out with an incomplete op order, a busted radio, and a vague promise of support. Arrowhead Studios didn’t just make a solid third-person shooter. They accidentally made a spiritual sequel to every field op that became a mess of confusion, enthusiastic but ineffective leadership, and duct-taped equipment held together by nicotine-fueled belligerence and the sincere belief that fake motivation is better than no motivation.

Helldivers 2 is a third-person co-op shooter from Arrowhead Studios, where you and three friends bring “managed democracy” to hostile alien worlds. Released in February 2024 for PlayStation 5 and PC with full crossplay, the game drops you into chaotic missions against giant bugs (Terminids), killer robots (Automatons), and mind-controlling invaders (Illuminate), with vague objectives, limited gear, and plenty of opportunities to accidentally wipe out your own squad.  [READ MORE]

A Message From Mayor Adams:
Each week DVS shares a brief update about how our administration is getting stuff done for New Yorkers.
Our administration works every day to create a more affordable city for every New Yorker, and that means putting money back into the pockets of working-class New Yorkers. Last week, we announced the increase of minimum pay rate for app-based delivery workers once again, up to $21.44 per hour from our original fair wages set in 2023. Thanks to these efforts, the apps these workers deliver for have now paid them an additional $700 million in wages over the last two years. This groundbreaking policy has made life easier for delivery workers and their families all across the five boroughs. At DVS, we believe finding meaningful employment that provides a living wage is not only essential to individual well-being, but vital to building thriving and equitable communities. That's why we've partnered with organization's like Edge4Vets who get results for the NYC Veteran community, facilitating their long-term employment in careers with upward mobility. Visit nyc.gov/vetjobs to see how DVS can help you in your career.
