Celebrating military families
On October 20th, The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at NYU Langone Health celebrated their 5th anniversary. The clinic treats over 1,500 service-members and their families. DVS Commissioner Loree Sutton attended the celebration and facilitated a panel discussion about perspectives on PTSD.

NYC's new anti-discrimination law
Public-private partnerships are essential to best serving the veteran population. That's why on October 23rd, representatives from DVS, the NYC Veterans Alliance, and the NYC Commission on Human Rights met at Civic Hall for a "Lunch and Learn" on the implementation of Local Law 119. This new law provides the strongest local-level protection against discrimination in the country for veterans and service-members. DVS and the CCHR generated a letter for landlords with information about legal protections for tenants.

DVS Office Hours
On October 26th, DVS held its first-ever Office Hours at Civic Hall (118 W 22nd St., 12th Fl). This monthly event is a time for veterans, service members, and family to voice their opinions and concerns, and discuss issues impacting the NYC veteran community.
Our next office hours will be held on Wednesday, November 29th from 5-7 pm.

DVS CIO Venkat Motupalli wins "Best of New York City" award
The New York City Technology Forum and Government Technology magazine selected the New York City Department of Veterans’ Services as one of 8 City agencies to win the “Best of New York City” award in Data Analytics. CIO Motupalli combined US Census, US Department of Veterans Affairs, and US Department of Defense datasets to create the first comprehensive accounting of the veterans’ population in New York City. As a result, DVS was able to identify Brooklyn as a critical outreach location for NYC veterans, and a major destination for returning service members. Congratulations, Venkat!
