Fall 2018 Update

Welcome to Levitt Pavilion San Jose's First Newsletter!

Rick Holden, Board PresidentIf you're reading this message, you're one of the hundreds of people we've spoken to in the last few months about our work to create a music pavilion in St. James Park. Thank you for your enthusiasm and interest!

As our first newsletter, we’d like to share a brief overview and update on our journey towards 50 free, family-friendly concerts.

Levitt Pavilion San Jose is a project being planned and built by the City of San José, Friends of Levitt Pavilion San Jose, and the Levitt Foundation, an organization that has built a national network of outdoor venues presenting free concert series.

It’s been a four-year journey so far to build a Levitt Pavilion in San Jose. Among the milestones we’ve achieved, the formal creation of Friends of Levitt Pavilion San Jose as a 501(c)(3), and a design for the Pavilion stand out as the biggest.

Our mission is to build community through free live music and performing arts, transforming historic St. James Park into a safe and inclusive destination for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Milestones we are currently working on now are:
  • Determining the final costs to build Levitt Pavilion San Jose, estimated at several million dollars. The costs will be paid by both the City of San José (generated from developer's building fees) and the board.

  • Finalizing the contract between the City, Friends of Levitt Pavilion San Jose, and the Levitt Foundation.
Until then, count on us to keep you updated in this journey. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter as we highlight local live music events and programs. Send us any questions, or let us know if you wish to support this project.

Thank you,

Rick Holden,
Board President, Friends of Levitt Pavilion San Jose

St. James Park History: RFK's 1968 Speech

Listen to the speech given by Robert F. Kennedy at St. James Park on March 23, 1968, just months before his assassination. A memorial podium built in 1970 at St. James Park commemorates his speech and continues to be a park landmark.
