Welcome Quilting Friends!

QuiltCon 2021 has come and gone. For many of us, this would be our first QuiltCon and maybe our only way to see QuiltCon. Another front-row seat on the virtual platform. The process was easy to sign up for the workshops and lectures which gave us FREE entry to the quilt show. The variety of workshops and lectures were plentiful and difficult to decide which to attend.

The quilt show was outstanding. The colours, lines, threads, fabric, creativity, personal messages were nothing short of inspiring. With so much that has happened over the past year, it’s clear that many quilters have used the events as inspiration to show their creativity and how the events have affected them on a personal level.
At our February 27 meet-up, our members shared what workshops and lectures they attended, what their experiences were like, what they liked about QuiltCon and what they hope to see different at the next QuiltCon. Many members have fingers crossed for the continuation of at least some part of the virtual format.

The next big event in the quilting world is Quilt Canada 2021, scheduled for June 16 - 19, which will also be virtual. We look forward to more quilting inspiration!

Our next meet-up is Wednesday, March 24th, 7:00 pm:

**Please note special date and time**

Our special guests will be Hiroko and Masanobu Miyama, from Japan, as they present their award-winning “Pictorial Quilts”.
Members will be emailed a Zoom invitation before the meeting.

February’s Meet-up

TRIPLE THANKS to members Marg Moore, Melissa Marginet and Pat Daniels who shared with us three different methods of paper piecing techniques. Marg started with the basics of paper piecing on tracing paper, Melissa demonstrated the technique with freezer paper and Pat showed us her technique using a product by Ricky Tims called Stable Stuff Poly which produced a more precise result. All very different techniques with beautiful results. We appreciate your time and talents that you so generously shared with us. Once we are able to meet again in person, the Guild will offer a paper piecing workshop.

There was also a POLL that was taken at the last meetup:

Q1. Would you attend a Zoom Sew-In Day?
83% said YES, 9% said NO, 2% said Not Interested

Guild Challenges

Melissa Marginet, WMQG member at large, has planned a challenge to boost your creativity. We hope you will join in the fun! If you haven’t joined in yet, it’s not too late. We encourage you to join anytime, share all your photos at the end or every two months when the new theme is announced.

All pieces must be 8.5" x 11". In the end, all four challenges must have something to connect them such as colour, texture, shape, or another element that ties them all together.

September - October theme: Modern Traditionalism
November - December theme: Negative Space
January - February theme: Improv

We will have Show & Share for the "Improv" theme at the March meet-up so send in your photo to  Melissa will announce the last theme of this challenge.

Call for Content

As the WMQG Social Media coordinator, I have a request:

If you have something "quilty" that you would like me to share on our social media platforms, please let me know. We prefer not to post about retail promos and sales, but events, tips, trends, and anything else that you think our members would like to read about - especially if there is a local connection - would be appreciated.

Thanks! - Holly Clarke
