  • IMPORTANT: No Monday CSA pick-ups because of Labor Day (we'll be there on Tuesday, instead, 4:00 to 6:00 PM), and 625 Broadway deliveries move to Wednesday (this week only).

Only during the Labor Day week, we are changing our Monday pick-up days to Tuesday, September 4 (same times). The produce drop-off at 625 Broadway will be on Wednesday, September 5. All Thursday pick-ups remain unchanged.
 

Farm News

Thank you to everyone who gave us a hand with cleaning the 2018 garlic crop - a short and sweet work party this Saturday got us through all the work. What a difference with previous years ... the new method of clipping garlic in the field, and drying in the greenhouse has a lot of benefits. You could wonder why we never tried this before - well, it took one disastrous garlic curing experience to make us change our habits ...

With all the garlic work out of the way, please look out for the garlic we promised to barter at the sites this week!

Traffic problems due to the U-pick ... well, we have not reached that point yet, but the U-pick was very busy this Labor Day weekend. It's great to see our CSA members take advantage of this unique opportunity to come and visit the farm, sample and harvest lots of different types of cherry tomatoes, grab some of their favorite herbs, and go home with a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers.

With the very warm weather predicted it's easy to forget that we've moved into September ... so if a visit to the U-pick is on your bucket list, try to make it out to your farm over the next few weeks!

The third Saturday in September, we are hosting an on-farm potluck dinner -- starts at 5:00, dinner at 6:00 PM. Bring your favorite dish to share, BYOB. Please RSVP so we can prepare according to the number of people planning on attending.

Recipe: Oven Baked New Potatoes, Herbs and Garlic 
 
The Carola potatoes in this week’s CSA share are great roasted – this recipe is a nice way to bring out texture and flavor. Maybe wait until later this week when the outdoor temperatures start to drop a little before firing up the oven! (recipe adapted from earlier Fox Creek Farm newsletters, and NYT Cooking)
 
Ingredients:
2 pounds small new potatoes, each 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter (or cut to that size)
¼ cup olive oil
 Salt
 Pepper
Some rosemary
 Some thyme
 Some sage
1 head of garlic, cloves separated but not peeled
3 tablespoons chopped flat-leaf parsley
 
Parchment paper
 
Directions: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Wash the potatoes to remove dirt. Put them in large mixing bowl. Add the olive oil, a generous amount of salt and pepper, the rosemary, thyme, sage and garlic cloves, and mix to coat.
Arrange potato herb mixture on an 18-inch round of baking parchment. Fold the parchment over to make a half moon, then fold and crimp the rounded edge to make a package, tucking in the end (this does not have to be a perfect airtight arrangement). Place the parchment package on a baking sheet and bake for 45 minutes. Parchment will puff and brown as the potatoes roast.
Remove potatoes from oven and let rest 10 minutes. Open the package and sprinkle with parsley. Serve directly from the parchment, with a large spoon for the delicious oily juices.

In this week's share

In every CSA share this week: Fresh onions, Carola potatoes, tomatoes. In rotation, beans, summer squash, eggplant, peppers, cilantro, corn, beets, lettuce, melon, broccoli, kale, and the last cucumbers.

U-Pick update: 
An abundance in flowers, herbs and cherry tomatoes. Pole beans. Ground Cherries. We think it's well worth a visit to the farm!

Saturday September 22: On-farm potluck dinner

Saturday September 22, starts at 5:00, dinner at 6:00 PM. Bring your favorite dish and BYOB to contribute to a great dinner here at Fox Creek Farm. Please RSVP, so we can prepare accordingly! RSPV due by Saturday, September 15.
