COVID-19, Fox Creek Farm CSA, and HOME DELIVERIES
Friends: like you, Sara and I are watching the developments surrounding the COVID-19 public health crisis closely. The school closures that started last week really drove the message home - we are finding ourselves in a situation where nobody was before. Working from home. Not seeing friends. Cancelling events. Stores that run out essentials. Uncertainty about job security, or the availability of sufficient health care.
We are following the COVID-19 crisis closely, and meet on a daily basis to adjust our farming operation to this new reality.
In these unsure times, we would like to let you know the following:
(1) Farms are essential for the food supply chain. Fox Creek Farm remains therefore exempt from the mass gathering and workforce reduction guidance issued by Governor Cuomo.
(2) We are moving forward on the farm. We are growing transplants, plowing fields, and are about to seed the first crops for the season. We are growing, and will harvest and deliver.
(3) For the sake of public health, we would like to let you know that we have in place strict hygiene protocols for work in the field (harvesting crops), work in our barn (the packing shed), and for our distribution.
BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY: Today we have decided that all Fox Creek Farm CSA shares will be home delivered for the 2020 season.
We feel this is the only logical way to assure that we can fulfill our commitment to you, while doing the most we possibly can do to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus - protecting our diverse CSA member community as well as we can.
And by making this decision, we can move forward recruiting drivers, extra help in the barn, and procure an additional delivery vehicle.
Obviously, our budget did not take into account the substantial additional costs that come with adapting this new delivery model. We will ask you for a small contribution to help us offset part of the costs. We will share with you the details about that as soon as we have them available.
Raymond and Sara
