Farm News

Summer for sure has arrived. The harvests are abundant. Tomatoes are here. Peppers and eggplant. And we are getting pretty close to harvesting the first sweet corn (patience! patience!).

It's always interesting to see how sudden the crops change from 'early season frost tolerant' to summer prime. Almost like the flip of a switch. Yes, eating in season does come with a varied diet!

We are working hard in keeping the crops happy - not too much rain the last couple of weeks in our area, so we're back to irrigating when and where we can. We developed an elaborate schedule to keep on track (and that helps), but we will be delighted by the relief that comes with a couple of nice rain storms!

The U-pick is getting pretty close to it's prime (see related paragraph in this newsletter), and looks absolutely beautiful. It's well worth the trip out to the farm.

By the way, this Wednesday (August 7), Raymond and Johanna will be representing the farm at the Cobleskill Fair draft horse show, presenting Tex, our Percheron. If you like to see some real big horses in action, please stop by!

Raymond and Sara

Fox Creek Farm CSA's U-Pick Garden

As you know, the on-farm U-pick garden is a benefit of your CSA membership, open to our CSA members and their family. There is no cost to you, but we do ask to keep in mind that the garden is shared with 399 other CSA members.

The U-pick therefore is not a source for enough tomatoes to put up for the winter, nor an unlimited supply of hot peppers. But there's enough of everything around to take what you would eat or use in a week.

And the U-Pick is looking beautiful! This week, besides the earlier announced culinary herbs and flowers, there is also a wide variety of cherry tomatoes and (for the first time) tomatillos available for harvest.

Really, if you have a chance to make the track out to the farm, you'll not be disappointed!

Cherry Tomatoes - NEW: Tomatillos
Ground Cherries - Hot Peppers
A wide variety of flowers
And lots of culinary herbs

In this week's share

We pride ourselves in providing our CSA members with an experience that exceeds your expectations. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any of your questions or concerns regarding the farm.
