1. Required HIPAA Training Due June 30

Faculty, Staff, Postdocs, Residents, and Students: To ensure everyone is aware of their responsibilities under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s (UTHSC) workforce must undergo periodic HIPAA Privacy TrainingThis online training is the official 2021 UTHSC-sanctioned training for federal HIPAA compliance purposes.

The deadline for completing this training is June 30.  

2. Employees: Annual Compliance Training is Due June 1

In an effort to maintain compliance with federal regulations and UT system policies, we are asking all current UTHSC employees to complete the six remaining training courses in K@TE. These include:

  • Campus Security Authority (CSA) Training
  • UT Code of Conduct
  • Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Hazard Awareness and Workplace Safety
  • Title VI (Civil Rights Act)
  • Title IX: Mandatory Responsible Employees


In previous years, you received these trainings at various times throughout the year. To simplify this process, all training has been coordinated in one location and disseminated at one time.

The deadline for completing this training is June 1.

3. New UTHSC Events Calendar

UTHSC has a new Events Calendar that will help connect our students and employees with various events happening on campus as well as virtual events!

The new calendar includes some great features:

  • Simple, organized, and attractive interface
  • Mobile-friendly design
  • Robust and easy-to-use event filters for audiences, event types, and topics
  • Ability to upload a photo for your event or choose from a pre-populated gallery of campus photos
  • Simplified event submission form
  • Easier event sharing
  • Custom event widgets to embed and display events on pages separate from the main calendar
  • “I’m Interested” functionality and user comments
  • Google Maps
  • Event listing metrics

Anyone with a NetID can submit an event to the calendar! To submit an upcoming event (in-person or virtual!) for your college, department, or unit:

  • visit uthsc.edu/calendar
  • click “log in” at the top right corner
  • enter your NetID and password
  • click “Log In with School ID”
  • click “Submit an Event” at the top right corner


The UTHSC Digital Content team will review and approve submitted events, so don’t worry if your event does not display immediately after hitting the submit button.

4. COVID-19 Testing Moving to University Health Services

Please note the schedule and location for the COVID-19 testing site on the Memphis campus in the Student-Alumni Center (SAC) gymnasium is changing. Beginning Friday, June 4, COVID-19 testing will be provided by University Health Services on Mondays and Fridays, 2:00 – 4:00 pm with no appointment necessary for faculty, staff, and students. University Health Services is located on the 9th floor of the 910 Madison Building.

The last day for COVID-19 testing at the SAC location will be Saturday, May 29, 2:00 – 4:00 pm.

Spouses, family members, and friends of UTHSC faculty, staff, and students cannot be tested at University Health Services and should go to a community testing site.

Testing at University Health Services is for those who are asymptomatic (no symptoms) and have had no known exposure to COVID-19.

Those with symptoms or who may have been exposed to COVID-19 will be referred to a University Clinical Health mobile testing site by texting “COVID” to 901.203.5526. Test results will take about 48 hours to be returned to the patient.

5. Happy Memorial Day!

The UTHSC campus will be closed on Monday, May 31, in honor of Memorial Day.
