We are taking science outdoors so we can show
kids what’s out there and how to apply what
you learn in a classroom.

Part 1: Extreme Science

The Bottom of the World: Antarctica Hear about what it’s like to work aboard a ship in one of the coldest places on the planet. Learn about the rocks and ice, whales, seals,
and penguins that call Antarctica home.

The Top of the World: Svalbard – What is it like to explore an ice cave? See polar bears out in the wild? Hike such untamed country? Hear stories of working in the Arctic!
Skiing for Science: Baffin Island, Canadian Arctic – Flying in a small airplane to the Arctic? Skiing over 50 miles in polar bear
country in the name of science?  Hear stories from a science
adventure to the Penny Ice Cap, one of the last
remnants of the Last Ice Age.
 
What is it like working in the field in extreme locations? What is the data telling us about how and how fast our planet is changing? Hear about working on the back deck of an icebreaker in Antarctica; skiing in Baffin Island (Canadian Arctic) and collecting data on snow pollution; paddling across glacial lakes in Nepal to collect information on potential of glacial floods; and exploring the wreckage of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 in the Andes, from
the story made famous in the book and movie, Alive!

Holiday Happy Hour Zoom
Please join your fellow HGM parents for a Holiday Meet and Greet Zoom. Grab a glass of your favorite sparkling beverage with which to toast, and join us as we all try to figure out who our child's friends' parents are and what we look like without masks on.
We'll start with a brief state of the union for
our organization, then move into break-out
rooms for informal chats.
