December 2021

Welcome to the final Scotinformer of 2021. As is now traditional, we have taken the opportunity to look back at the year and describe it in data! It paints a picture of an eventful, challenging but ultimately successful year - read on for the story behind the stats.

We would like to send all of you our best wishes for a happy, healthy and peaceful 2022.

...and the stories behind them:

34 Clients
We've worked for private companies, charities, government agencies, cultural bodies, national parks, universities and other consultants.  Thanks to each and every one of you.

55 Projects
This year has seen us deliver the full range of qualitative, quantitative and desk research, along with training and mentoring support. Some projects have lasted all year, some just a few days. All aspire to help our clients make Good Decisions.

160 School at Home Days
We couldn't do a review of 2021 without mentioning the pandemic, and for all of the first quarter of 2021 we had three additional co-workers in the office. All went swimmingly of course - one lucky client even got a quick geography lesson via an unfortunate Bluetooth pairing!

24 Focus Groups
All of our focus groups have been online this year, which has allowed us to keep going despite pandemic restrictions - and the weather! It's been a pleasure to work with clients like the National Mining Museum Scotland, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, and National Museums Scotland.

20 Charities Worked For
We are very proud of our work with the charitable sector. Our work with organisations like VOCAL and Age Scotland has given people a voice, whilst we have supported Scottish Book Trust, St Columba's Hospice and Ruskin Mill Trust with strategic development.

24,151 responses to surveys
The online survey definitely deserves its place in our 2021 review - we've published nearly 100 of them this year! Our robust sample sizes and detailed analysis have allowed us to help organisations like the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, V&A Dundee and Capital Theatres make Good Decisions.

9 projects involving the Scotinform Cultural Panel
The Scotinform Cultural Panel has been a fantastic resource in 2021. This group of nearly 700 cultural attendees has participated in research for a range of clients, as well as for our in-house work to support the sector.

601 coffees consumed (estimate)
Possibly the most interesting - and scary - figure in our review of 2021. We won't tell you how these are distributed between the Scotinformers, but the biggest coffee consumer recently did the Scottish Book Trust quiz on children's book characters and came out as Tigger.

14 New Clients
It's always great to meet new faces and we'd like to say a special hello to those who we have worked with for the first time this year, From Aerospace Kinross to the Cairngorms National Park Authority, it has been a pleasure!

24 Mystery Shops
Our mystery shop programmes have run throughout 2021, moving online when in-person visits were not possible. We've also run an exciting new project with Screen Scotland and our Teacher Panel, asking teachers to feed back on educational resources by teaching a lesson - possibly the ultimate mystery shop!

564 Outdoor Leaners at Trinity Primary School
Staying at school, we've extended our involvement with our local primary school to support the delivery of outdoor learning and play to all pupils. So far we've funded garden tools, topsoil, and - our favourite - a rabbit hutch extension!

1 Mention of Scotinform in the Scottish Parliament
This was a highlight that we couldn't leave out of our review of 2021. The Big Survey which we conducted for Age Scotland was the subject of a motion in the Scottish Parliament: 'this new and extensive research...provides a wealth of information and insight'
