1) An introduction to de-fi lending
💱 Among the many areas cryptocurrencies is disrupting, the most relevant one is in the financial sector. Crypto will revolutionize the old banking model and it's already started with decentralized finance (de-fi).
Decentralized finance is defined by institutions that utilize blockchain technology to remove the need for a majority of costly infrastructure expenses like exchanges, brokerages, banks, physical locations, and salaries. Instead of relying on all the extra stuff, they rely on code which significantly reduces costs. This allows them to shift most of what they earn (revenue) back to their customers. Here's a video that uses whiteboard animations to explain this in greater depth.
In the graph above, you can see how much major North American banks paid back to their customers compared to one of the top-tier De-Fi platforms I'll introduce to you, named Celsius.
