📷 Kevin Systrom, the co-founder of Instagram, had an insightful response to an interviewer who asked "what elements make a business fail?" His answer:
"Most businesses fail from one of two ways: They either don't change quick enough because they're adamant that they're right even though they aren't OR they're learning rates too high and they wildly chase new ideas and don't settle and find progress in one. The key to a business's success is an ability to pivot rapidly when something isn't working but prioritize and commit to the features that work. For Instagram, this was pictures and shareability."
It struck me that this solution is valuable to the individual too.
People fail because either they are too hard-headed to admit their opinion, idea, or strategy is wrong or because they get distracted by new opinions, ideas, or strategies so quickly, they never make progress in any one pursuit.
Reflect on your behavior and work to find the balance between the two.
