ALMIGHTY and merciful God, of whose only gift it cometh that thy faithful people do unto thee true and laudable service: Grant, we beseech thee, that we may so faithfully serve thee in this life, that we fail not finally to attain thy heavenly promises; through the merits of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Good Samaritan Window in St. Olave's Chapel

Rector’s Message
Our Gospel Lesson this Sunday is perhaps one of the most well known stories ever told by Jesus. The phrase, “a Good Samaritan,” has become part of our cultural language and is used even by people without any Christian knowledge or experience. There is, of course, a reason for this. It is a most powerful story that continues to challenge and enlighten, even in the cynical times in which we live.

Our Assistant Curate, Rev’d Alexandra, will be preaching on this text from Luke at both our 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services this Sunday. I hope you can join us to hear again this story and reflect on its meaning for our lives. I would recommend reading the story over a few times before Sunday. Then, come to church with it fresh in your mind. You will find that you will come away from the service having gained much.

I hope to see you then.

THIS FRIDAY AUTUMN SERIES BEGINS
Evening Prayer 6 p.m., light supper 6:30, talk at 7 p.m.

Rev’d Alexandra will lead a four-part series on the history of private prayer. Each session will look at the practice of private prayer in a different era: The Early Church, The Middle Ages, The Reformation and Today. All are welcome! Series continues three following Fridays.

SEPTEMBER 29, 4 p.m. CHORAL EVENSONG FOR MICHAELMAS AND SIR DAVID WILLCOCKS CENTENARY
We welcome the choir of St. Peter’s, Erindale and its director Clement Carelse. The service is followed by a Peach Tea, during which Clement will discuss the life of Sir David (1919-2015), whom he knew while at King’s College, Cambridge.  Read more here.
