Students from the ‘Class of 2018’ received their GCSE results with great delight.  We are so proud of our leavers, their five years of hard work has paid off and we wish them more success on the next part of their journey into employment and further education.

Headteacher Mrs Jones, “Against the backdrop of significant national change and increased academic challenge, I am pleased to say that our students have risen to the challenge. Well done to the students for their commitment and determination and thank you to parents for their unwavering support and encouragement.  We are delighted that so many of our students have secured excellent grades and can now proceed on to their chosen college, sixth form or apprenticeship. This has been a result of the students’ hard work as well as the dedication of staff."

Provisional analysis indicates that:

  • 21% of students have achieved at least one of the highest grades (9, 8, 7, A*, A), with 6 students achieving at least one grade 9.
  • 92% of students have achieved GCSE grades in at least five subjects.

This year we have made a number of new partnerships which set to benefit all our students and our community.

We work with local National Trust site Quarry Bank, offering our students and families exclusive access to learning programmes and family passes to visit all year round, free of charge.

Also new this year is our partnership with Manchester Museum.  This is a really exciting collaboration which has enabled us already to host the ‘Inflatable Museum’ in school, welcoming primary school students from across Wythenshawe alongside NGHS students to take part in workshops about Egyptology and handle genuine artefacts, facilitated by Manchester Museum staff.  We are also running the ‘Shabti in Schools’ project, a unique opportunity to house an ancient Egyptian artefact from 2500BC and deliver a learning programme on Egyptology to the wider community.

Local Business group BW3 have chosen us as their school of the year.  This provides opportunities for students to gain valuable knowledge and support form industry professionals from Manchester Airport, Learning Unlimited, WCHG and many more, preparing students for their future careers.

Over the past few weeks, we've been checking in with some of new Year 7 students to find out how they are finding secondary school, it turns out they are settled in nicely and feeling at home!

Please see the timetable for homework this year.  You can also view or download our homework policy, and the full 'Home Learning for Parents' booklet via the school website which has everything you need to know about supporting your child's home learning including help on Doddle.
