YEAR 7 AND YEAR 11 PARENTS' EVENING
A letter has been sent home for all parents and carers of Year 7 and Year 11 students, inviting you to join us at Parents' Evening on the 26th of February.  For Year 7 parents, this is your first chance to meet your child's subject teachers, find out how your child has settled in and celebrate their successes from this academic year.  For Year 11 parents, it is the final Parents' Evening before your child embarks on their final GCSE examinations and leave school at the end of the summer term, It is crucial that we maintain these lines of communication between home and school as the exams get underway and we will work with you to support your child through this time.
TALK THE TALK WORKSHOPS

'Talk the Talk' have been into school again this half term to work with Year 11 on building confidence and developing their oracy skills.  The aim of these sessions is to improve students' communication skills for life, to help them as they move through their final year at school and onto their next path, in education or employment.  Seb Thorpe, a trainer with Talk the Talk said,

"Days like today are the reason we work in education. Year 11 students discussed a range of topics in such a mature manner, I was genuinely moved. Left the school feeling inspired and with a beaming smile.  Amazing stuff!"

ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY TRIP
Our Year 11 Students visited Salford Quays, The Lowry and Manchester Art gallery gathering together ideas, recording intentions, experimenting with Photography and looking at the work of others to develop their own investigations.  The exhibitions really varied from Installations, Leonardo Da Vinci’s drawings to Martin Parrs return to Manchester at The Manchester Art Gallery.  Our students really enjoyed how Martin Parr captures how Mancunians live their lives and they were particularly interested in how Martin Parr has documented Manchester over 40 years.  See a selection of photographs taken by students below.  Don't forget, you can check out what the Art & Design and Photography Department are up to by following them on twitter @NGHS_ART.

 A GAME OF OUR OWN

Miss Bullimore took a group of Year 9 Sport Leaders to a special project called 'A Game Of Our Own' at the Armitage Sports Centre in Manchester.

Game of Our Own is a programme delivered by children’s charity the Youth Sport Trust thanks to funding from the FA. It supports teenage girls in secondary schools to learn leadership skills and ignite their passion for the game, so they can deliver football sessions to girls their own age when they return to school and their community to get more girls into the game.  The girls got to meet some of the England Women's Football team and Demi actually megged the England goal keeper!  The project has been a huge success and the girls have really enjoyed it.

MANCHESTER INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

Newall Green High School will once again have the fantastic opportunity to work with the Manchester International Festival (MIF).

The organisers of the festival have chosen to work with us on a project called 'Creative Critics' which is designed to encourage children and young people to engage more deeply with art as both audience members and as arts critics. The project celebrates young people’s unique voices while also helping them to develop their critical appreciation and communication skills – in the words of Judith Mackrell, The Guardian’s dance critic, giving them “confidence to trust their own curiosity, their own reactions”.

Keep up to date with all the latest news from the project via our Art twitter account @NGHS_ART, and the school twiiter @NGHS_STRIVE.
