Our second workshop this year within Colloidal Materials was hosted by Tetra Pak in Lund on the 24th of October 2019. Once again, we had an inspiring workshop bringing together universities, GTS institutes and companies from LINX to discuss challenges, present solutions and establish shared interest for collaboration. As the projects mature, more and more insights are obtained into the structure of the complex colloidal systems studied. At the end of the day, we had the unique opportunity to visit labs and pilot plants at Tetra Pak.
LINX Workshops Corner
New workshops coming up this fall
If you did not sign up for the upcoming LINX workshops, you are welcome to sign up, before it is too late. November is a busy month for LINX with three workshops to be held at our partner universities AU and DTU, and our industry partner - Novo Nordisk. Read more about each workshop below and secure your place. We look forward to some days full of inspiration, insights, ideas and great discussions. Sorption of Liquids and Humidity - November 11th at Aarhus University, Aarhus, Denmark
The aim of this Focus area is to improve the design of materials to either enhance liquid transport or keep humidity restricted from given volumes. LINX provides access to a very powerful combination of methods for studying liquid sorption and transport either through materials or along their interfaces. By combining X-ray and neutron crystallography, small-angle scattering, and imaging, one can cover length scales from the atomic to the microscopic. Investigating materials that are exposed to either liquids or humidity for relevant time scales will provide information about how sorption of liquids and humidity can impact the structure and properties of the materials. Materials at Operating and Processing conditions - November 14th at Novo Nordisk, Hillerød
In-depth understanding of material structure, properties and degradation during actual use is crucial for manufacturers. In this focus workshop, we will discuss the use of X-ray and neutron techniques in LINX to investigate how operating and processing conditions influence structure at the atomic level and all the way up through the microstructure. Fiber Structure and Dynamics - November 25th at DTU, Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark
Today, both synthetic and naturally occurring fibers are used in many materials and components to improve properties like wettability, mechanical strength, flexibility, and strength-to-weight ratio. Consequently, much attention has been directed to the measurement and analysis of fiber structures (both individually and as an ensemble) to better understand and ultimately exploit the structure-function relationships. X-ray imaging enables visualization of the 3D arrangement of fibers inside materials over several length scales, while small angle scattering adds information on the internal structure.
If you would like to attend, get involved and learn more about any of the above workshops, please contact Silvia Cebanu at email@example.com.
LINX Annual Workshop
We are delighted to invite all LINX members to our LINX workshop where we will present our latest results and fuel the networks. The event will be held at the beautiful Confederation of Danish Industry, where the facilities provide a perfect framework for contact and networking. We have planned the event, so that you get plenty of time and opportunity to network and discuss with members, project partners and invited guests. The full program for the day will be released soon.
We have now opened for member registrations. Please mark your calender and register by sending an email to Silvia Cebanu firstname.lastname@example.org. The event is free of charge and will be held in English. We look forward to see you for an inspiring and connecting day together.
WHEN: 10th of December
TIME: 12:00 - 17:00

Inauguration of the ESS Data Center Copenhagen
Last week, an important milestone has been reached, when ESS has officially inaugurated their data centre infrastructure, a core component of the ESS Data Management & Software Centre (DMSC). Denmark and Sweden are joint host countries for ESS, with Denmark playing an essencial role in providing the analysis and modelling software that enables researchers to transform enormous amounts of experimental data into scientific results. For the benefits of the whole scientific community, the new data centre will present innovative breakthroughs in material science.
The Nordic Neutron Science Program (NNSP) and the Swedish SwedNess held a Neutron Scattering School in Tartu (EST), September 2019. 28 participants enjoyed two weeks of lectures, exercises, and e-learning. The school is held again 5-18 September 2020 with free participation, including travel and hotel for students and post docs with a Nordic affiliation.
