When We Fight, We Win!
Skilled Craft Workers At UCSC Win After 2 Weeks On Strike

After 2 weeks on strike with the support from students and community members, 49 AFSCME 3299 K7 Skilled Craft workers at UCSC ratified a historic contract on January 21st.

Over the last two years, K7 workers have been fighting for the same standards that SX and PCT members are fighting for-- fair wages, job security, healthcare, and pension. Not only did UC repeatedly deny K7 workers a fair contract, UC implemented on K7 before the holidays.

Workers fought back by going on an open-ended strike. During the strike, UC played the same tricks to threaten, confuse, and scare workers hoping that we would settle for less. With the same persistence, K7 members won what UC said they would never get:

  • Fair Wages
  • Retro
  • Job Security
    • UC cannot contract out work that results in K7 layoffs
    • UC cannot contract out based on "financial necessity"
  • No mandatory on-call
  • Increased shift differentials
  • Increased weekend differentials
  • Right to refuse unsafe work assignments
  • Same protections on healthcare and pension as Service workers

We will not settle for less
