Hello, friends! One of the better decisions I've made (if you can call it a decision) is to make friends with a broad set of interests and professional roles. This exposes me to so much more information than I'd have otherwise. For example, if I didn't read Jim Grey's blog for the roadgeek posts, I'd have never seen his photo set of round barns. And if I hadn't read that post, I would never have read about the history of round barns in Indiana. This information will almost certainly be of no practical value at any point in my life. But it makes life a little more colorful.

I think that's what I like the most about social media, at least before it became a collection of hellsites. I start following people based on a shared interest and then I learn about all of the other things they're interested in. Even if I don't personally care about those interests, it's neat to see people as people.
