Food for thought! By Audrey Wollen

We have friends

If you came out to defend a clinic with us in 2018, besides feeling immense joy and solidarity (we hope?!), you might have also felt………. lonely? Not in the immediate sense, because at our actions I think we all do feel tied to one another in ways that we hardly ever get to feel in our everyday lives. (Folks, when else do you get to shut down Houston with three or four dozen of your closest socialist feminist friends?) But politically, it can feel lonely to wake up very early on a Saturday to participate in a form of activism that is, frankly, unpopular. Not many others are waking up with us; the institution we are hauling ourselves into Manhattan to defend would rather us phone our senators instead. Though we know that others on the ground feel differently, this is their official line, at least, and conventional wisdom for many liberals and leftists alike says, stay home, confronting antis won’t make them go away, it just makes things worse for patients. It’s dOnT FeEd tHe TrOLls, but woke!

Here in 2019, we’re happy to say, we’re finding more and more groups across the country who aren’t buying it. We had a call over the weekend where we spoke with organizers from Minneapolis, Madison, Seattle, Tacoma, and Everett, WA, who are all doing this work, and in some cases have been for years. They are turning out often (more often than us, in some cases!!), in big numbers, and they are transforming the spaces they protect: anti turnout is down, Proud Boys have stopped showing their faces, the presence of clinic defenders at 40 Days events is driving antis to move locations and take their organizing underground, escorts are joining clinic defenders on their days off.

Look! Our Saturday morning actions aren’t hyper-local one-offs, and in fact they may be part of….. An emerging movement??

Anyway, stay tuned for the answer to that question, and meanwhile please donate to our GoFundMe if you can. There aren't too many groups dedicated solely to grassroots abortion rights activism (yet!), and we need some cash to fund another year of our work. Thanks for your support. ♥︎

We love

LifeSiteNews, the internet’s #1 pro-life news website. They do such hard-hitting coverage with stories like “Legal Expert Claims that Unborn Babies are Really Chimpanzees” and “Here’s How One Saintly Pope Would Clean up Gay Orgies at the Vatican” (with wet wipes, presumably?). Now they’ve blessed us with this:
Surely?? But no: "Darkness now descends upon Ireland’s Four Green Fields... In its cold gloom, strange new gods are being worshipped once more, the bitter lessons of old, that the pagan gods were never gods but demons, long since forgotten.”

We've read that last sentence six times and still can't quite parse it, but we love how LifeSiteNews is working so hard in their intro to creative writing workshop! Proud of y'all!! Forward this to someone who worships the strange new god, Abortion.
