Family Movie Night
Our Family Movie Night was a huge success! It had such a good ‘vibe’ and all appeared to be enjoying connecting as a school and local community. (While there is a risk a name will be missed) A huge thanks to the wonderful parent volunteers for all their efforts - Tammy, Jo, Sophie, Emily, Tanya, Aimee, Kate, Jesse, Kim, Emma, Eric, Lorraine, Rowan, Tanysha, Amii, Donelle, Ayla, Rita, James, Joanne, Tracy, Ange, Barney, Gary, Carolyn, Chelsea, Julia, Brandi, Penny, Elisabeth, Emma, Clare, Beth, Paul, Sylvie, Nikki, Matt, Dan, Greg, Glen, Yewie. The night raised approximately four thousand dollars which will go to our total Kitchen Garden upgrade – which includes the pizza oven, new shed to be housed within the garden boundary as well as seating and food preparation areas.
Last week our very brave Xavier is a timely reminder for families regarding Personal Accident Insurance. Occasionally falls from play equipment can result in injuries. So, parents should be aware that neither the Department of Education and Training nor the school provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students. Parents/guardians of students, who do not have student accident insurance, are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance/transport and any other transport costs. Insurance policies can be purchased from commercial insurers. Ambulance cover may form part of any Private
Health Fund or can be purchased from Ambulance Victoria. We are thrilled that Xavier is on the mend and sporting a very impressive plaster cast.
A few students in Year 3 and 4 have chosen having lunch with Valetta and me as their ‘privilege’ over the past weeks. These privileges are part of our School Wide Positive Behaviour Program. Teachers award students ‘stars’ for positive behaviours and when students receive 10 of these they negotiate a privilege of their choice. I guess Valetta and I are good dining company!
Beautiful Kitchen Garden a haven for wildlife
Parent Nicole Ferris sent me this gorgeous photo of our Kitchen Garden during last week’s outdoor assembly. We are so privileged to have such a lovely garden at our school.

Report From YPS School Council
At the most recent YPS School Council meeting we were able to review and endorse the school’s Annual Implementation Plan (AIP), as presented by our Principal, Saraid. The AIP will be posted on the school’s website soon. We also discussed a schedule of school events for the coming year, so look out for announcements on Compass as there is a lot to look forward to this year. Financial reports were presented and endorsed, as was the budget for the coming year.
At this meeting we said goodbye to two of our parent representatives, Meredith Bowden and Colin Prasad - they have both done amazing work in Council, and we will miss them very much. Thank you, Meredith and Colin! Next meeting we welcome Elizabeth Davis and Ross Jones as new members of Council, and we remind the YPS community that our meetings are open to all of you, and you are very welcome to attend as observers. Our next meeting is on 20 March at 6:30pm in the staffroom.
KITCHEN GARDEN ROSTER
Kitchen Garden News
Do you have any pots and plants that are not wanted in your garden at home? We are cultivating a potted garden outside the multi-purpose room, so any donations to grow our garden would be appreciated. Must be hardy though!!! Many thanks to Hyphe who has been very busy weeding and filling in the hole in the Kitchen Garden too. Stay cool everyone!

What an exciting start to the sporting year at Yarra Primary school! Twenty four student from years 3-6 represented our school in the District Swimming time trials on Friday the 15th. We had a fantastic line up in the girls and boys freestyle relays. We also had a strong open medley team of girls and boys. This amazing group of hard working students ended up with some terrific individual qualifying times.
We have thirteen students going through to the Division Swimming event on Wednesday the 6th March. Congratulations to Edwina, Ewan, Emilia, Ava, Alyssa, Ashby, Eleanor B, Ayla, Zahra, Annie S, Xavier G, Remy & Jennifer H. The students will be competing in their individual races as well as the Girls 9/10yr Freestyle Relay, Girls 11yr Freestyle Relay, Boys 11yr Freestyle Relay, Open Boys & Girls Medley Relay.
Well done to the following students for an excellent effort: Augie, Raef, Adonay, Greg C, Bailey, Lara, Mia, Rosa, Daisy and Luis.
Thank you to Lynne Seabrook, Tanya Medley, Joanne Le, Murray Blair & Hyph for accompanying and support the students and staff on the day.
