Hello, GroCo Family!

As we're writing this, it's snowing on Halloween, so Merry Hallowmas to you! 🍁❄️🎃What a fast-paced month we've had and so full of expansion in a number of ways. Read on for all the exciting news.

We welcomed Elvia Meza-Klosinski and Katy Daixon Wimer to our Board of Directors. Learn about both of them on our website
What a lovely night spent with fellow Owners eating delicious offerings from Taqueria La Preferida and Casual Joe's, learning about the current status of the GroCo, AND getting inspired by Jon Steinman, author of A Grocery Story. Coming from a small town of 4,000 or so people and building a successful co-op that's consistently able to put money back into the community in a number of ways, Jon inspired us and helped us remember that THIS IS POSSIBLE. We CAN make this happen, friends. Keep spreading the word!
WE'VE REACHED 605 OWNERS! And want to reach 800 Owners by the end of the year. At 800 owners, we can begin our search for a General Manager, get closer to nailing down a site for the store, and launch our capital campaign to fund the store. Please help us reach these goals. Nudge your friends and family in the area. Host a house party (We've got tips on how to do that.). Share and interact with our posts on social media. Every little bit helps! Onward and upward to 800!
Welcome to our newest UW-Whitewater student intern, Jonathan Roberts, relaxing here with board member, Praveen Parboteeah. Aside from helping with various odds and ends for the Ownership & Outreach Committee, Jonathan is super passionate about bridging the gap between small farmers and the co-op. He'll also be connecting our efforts to the University by staffing a table in the University Center frequently to educate staff and students about our progress, and hopefully sign up some new Owners!

The Whitewater Winter Market begins Saturday, November 9! Come visit us to hear the latest on our progress. We'll be signing up new Owners to help us move toward 800!

9 a.m. - Noon
Irvin L Young Memorial Public Library
The Whitewater Historical Society has planned another phenomenal event. We're excited for the opportunity to set up our table on Sunday, November 17!

Come learn all about Whitewater grocery stores of the past and how you can help get the Whitewater Grocery Co. up and running in our town.

1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Cravath Lakefront Center building.

Catch our GroCo float in the annual Holiday Parade of Lights on December 6 at 6 p.m.
  • The GroCo Cookbook Crew's Friendsgiving Harvest Potluck has been canceled. The Ownership & Outreach Committee is devoting the end of the year to brainstorming and planning our marketing and communications activities for next year. We are looking forward to kicking off the New Year with another cocktail party!
Until then, please consider submitting your favorite recipe to our cookbook! We can't wait to see these on the shelves at the Whitewater Grocery Co. STORE!
We are seeking volunteers for a variety of small positions/tasks. If volunteering for this endeavor interests you, contact Katy (the one holding the lemon below!), and she will work with you to pinpoint your skillset so you're working on things you love to do!
Not interested in volunteering but still want to help? Forward this newsletter to anyone who might be on the fence about becoming an Owner or who simply wants to stay informed! Newbies can sign up for the newsletter by clicking on the button below.
