Judge denies release of bodycam footage in the shooting of Andrew Brown Jr. 

  • On Wednesday a North Carolina judge rejected bids from a county sheriff and multiple media outlets to have footage that captured the shooting of Andrew Brown Jr., a 42-year-old Black man, released to the public
  • The judge stated that releasing the footage could affect a potential trial for the officers who opened fire while serving a warrant to Brown. The judge did allow Brown’s immediate family and lawyer to privately view the footage


Former members of Italian Red Brigades arrested in France

  • On Wednesday, seven former members of the Italian left-wing terrorist group Red Brigades, active during the 1970s and 1980s, were arrested after years of seeking asylum in France from imprisonment 
  • The arrests follow negotiations between France and Italy following decades of a French refusal to act on many arrest warrants issued by Italy for convicted left-wing terrorists. Negotiations began recently after both France and Italy gained new leadership


Uber launches car rental feature

  • On Wednesday, the ride-service company launched a car rental program on its app called Uber Rent, that will allow users to book rental cars from companies like Hertz and Avis
  • Uber made the announcement during an event Wednesday, where they also announced a feature that will allow users to book vaccine appointments at Walgreens through the app and give users a ride to their appointment


PlayStation Plus announces new games

  • On Wednesday, Sony announced new games that would be released on PlayStation Plus in May, including Wreckfest: Drive Hard, Battlefield V, and Stranded Deep
  • The new releases come as Sony announced in their latest earning report that 7.8 million PlayStation 5 consoles have been sold as of March 31, with 3.3 million of them being shipped between January and March 2021

Federal authorities search Rudy Guliani’s home

  • On Wednesday morning, federal investigators executed a search warrant for the New York apartment and office of Rudy Guliani, the former mayor of New York City and former personal lawyer for Donald Trump
  • The search was part of a criminal investigation into Guliani’s relations with Ukraine and possible violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act


Connecticut ends religious exemptions from vaccines

  • On Wednesday, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont signed a bill that will no longer allow a religious exemption from childhood immunizations required for schools and daycare facilities, becoming the sixth state to end the policy
  • Supporters of the bill argue that eliminating the practice will help prevent potential outbreaks of diseases like measles, but critics argue the bill is discriminatory against parents with religious concerns regarding vaccines
