Delta airlines makes slow return to normal

  • Delta Air Lines is reportedly in discussion about reinstating quarantine-free flights from the United States to Europe. Already, two flights have been approved for this week
  • The agreement still lies within the limitations of the flights, which are restricted to essential travel and require COVID testing
  • Delta’s Senior Vice President Perry Cantarutti told a press conference that “this is the first step...Our focus is not just across the Atlantic. I think we’d like to see a similar program across the Pacific”


Boko Haram claims mass abduction in Nigeria

  • More than 330 boys were kidnapped from the Government Science Secondary School in Kankara on Tuesday and are being held hostage in Nigeria’s northern Katsina state by the Islamic State in West Africa (otherwise known as Boko Haram)
  • Katsina governor Aminu Masari told reporters that his security agencies deployed for rescue operations "have also informed us that they have located their position"


Biden team faces calls to abolish death penalty

  • On Tuesday, Biden’s transition team received demands from several dozen representatives who not only expect Biden to put an end to the death penalty, but to have all pending cases overturned by inauguration 
  • Several representatives and celebrities saw their demands reach Biden’s team in light of the execution of Brandon Bernard


Widespread outage attacks Gmail users

  • According to monitoring software Downdetector, widespread outages struck nationwide Gmail users Tuesday around 3pm ET
  • At its peak, the outages affected some 18,000 users of both Gmail and Stadia, but were resolved by 7pm ET

COVID showing signs of slow in some midwestern states

  • Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, and Nebraska are still following the national trends of death and severe illness caused by COVID-19, but have seen a decrease in the amount of positive cases
  • James Lawler from the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Global Center for Health Security has said that he believes the decrease is due to an adherence to mask wearing and limited dining out


Wish announces IPO, set to begin Wednesday morning

  • Wish, the e-commerce platform run by ContextLogic Inc, announced its IPO at $24 and expects to sell 46 million shares, bringing its market cap to $14 billion
  • Wish caters its 1.8 million daily sales to low to middle class consumers who use the platform for its often-discounted goods originating in China
