Biden secures needed delegates for nomination  

  • Presidential candidate Joe Biden has earned enough delegates to officially secure the Democratic nomination for President
  • Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee since Bernie Sanders’ April campaign suspension, passed the 1,991 delegate threshold with an electoral victory in Guam
  • Biden is expected to be officially named the Democratic nominee at the Democratic National Convention in August

‘Misclassification error’ in U.S. May unemployment report

  • The U.S. government’s jobs report for May included a note at the bottom claiming a major “error” indicating that the unemployment rate should be higher than the reported 13.3 percent rate
  • While the number remains high, the Bureau of Labor Statistics says that May unemployment numbers are slightly better than April, even with the error accounted for
  • Some detractors are accusing the American government of purposefully tinkering with numbers in order to make President Trump look better


French forces kill Al-Qaeda leader

  • Al-Qaeda leader Abdelmalek Droukdal was killed on Friday in a French military operation that took place in the northern region of Mali
  • The killing of Droukdal, later confirmed by the U.S. Africa Command, is a setback of Al Qaeda’s growing operations in northwestern Africa
  • Christopher Karns of the U.S. Africa Command claims the United States provided the French with intelligence and surveillance aircraft in their mission


Facebook to consider adding people of color as moderators

  • Facebook published new recommendations for group admins in an attempt to help create conversations about race and inequality
  • The social media giant has recently had issues of moderating their group feature, given the current state of affairs in the United States


Android and iOS to receive new face-blurring tool

  • Signal, an encrypted messaging app, has announced a face-blurring tool in the app’s next update
  • Consumers worried about privacy will be able to blur out faces of any bystanders appearing photographs taken in public spaces
  • It is anticipated that Signal’s new feature will be used to protect individuals involved in the ongoing U.S. protests


Premier League to use FIFA crowd noises

  • When the English Premier League returns on June 17th, those watching the live broadcasts will be able to hear crowd noises from the FIFA video game series to fill in the ambient stadium sounds
  • Per a press release, the goal is to replicate “the vibrant atmosphere of Premier League clashes,”
  • The German Bundesliga has also experimented with inserting crowd noises in their game broadcasts, which was met with success
