  • After the EU revealed a new plan to control carbon emissions, 17 year-old environmental activist Greta Thunberg criticized the plan as ineffective and insubstantial
  • The activist lambasted the plan as lacking the necessary urgency, stating that “this climate law is surrender"

Airlines are getting cleaner to combat COVID-19 fears

  • Executives from American Airlines, Jet Blue, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and others met with top staff at the White House to discuss changes in sanitation practices 
  • The purpose of the meeting was to help rectify the fall in demand that airlines in America have experienced due to the decrease in international travel amidst the coronavirus crisis


India cuts drug exports as access to ingredients falls

  • India, one of the largest drug exporters across the globe, has restricted their exports of 26 active ingredients (and drugs that are made with them) due to limited availability
  • Part of the reason for India tightening its exports is the anticipation that the drugs will be needed within India to treat domestic COVID-19 patients 


Electric skateboard company Boosted suffers from US-China tariff war

  • American manufacturer of electric skateboards, Boosted, announced that significant numbers of their team have been let go as the company prepares to receive new ownership
  • In a blog post from the CEO, the reasons for the downsizing are due to high operation costs and the “unplanned challenge with the high expense of the US-China tariff war”


Transgender weightlifter from New Zealand shows Olympic promise

  • Weightlifter Laurel Hubbard is showing distinct potential to attend the Tokyo Olympics, a rare victory for transgender weightlifters
  • Her path to the Olympics have thus far not been met with legal nor competition opposition, and she is eligible to compete in Tokyo upon qualification
