Biden leads Trump by six points in Wisconsin

  • In a CBS News YouGov poll released on Sunday afternoon, Joe Biden is shown to lead Trump by six points in the battleground state
  • Half of likely voters in Wisconsin said they will vote for Biden in the election, while forty-four percent said they will vote for Trump. Four percent of Wisconsin voters stated they were still unsure of who they would vote for
  • The poll was conducted in conjunction with the recent police shooting of Jacob Blake. Both candidates visited Kenosha, Wisconsin, the site of the shooting, though only Biden met with Blake


Protests in Belarus continue

  • Demonstrations against Belarussian president Alexander Lukashenko continued this past weekend, as tens of thousands of people organized, calling for Lukashenko to step down
  • Protesters defied a government warning to not march, as they waved flags and chanted in the Belarus capital
  • An estimated seventy people were arrested, with several more injured as a result of police violence


Amazon bans foreign plant sales

  • Following a slew of cases where packets of seeds were delivered to individuals who did not order them, Amazon has banned the sale of plants across national borders
  • The packets of seeds, bearing Chinese postage were delivered to unsuspecting people across the world, and no one is sure why
  • The USDA states that plants smuggled into the US can cause harm to gardens, farms, and the environment, noting that “mislabeling packages in order to get seeds and other plant materials into the country is agricultural smuggling”


China launches reusable spacecraft

  • China states that it had launched a "reusable experimental spacecraft" on Friday under layers of secrecy
  • The craft is believed to be an unmanned space plane capable of re-entering orbit for use at later times
  • The secrecy of the project, with no official photos or video of the launch, have led some to believe that the craft may have military capabilities

  • In an expose published by The Atlantic, Donald Trump has faced an extreme backlash from the military after referring to fallen soldiers as “losers” and “suckers”
  • This latest incident highlights Trump’s tumultuous relationship with the military. Other controversial events include the disparaging of former POW John McCain and Trump’s draft dodging during the Vietnam war
  • Prominent military figures have demanded an apology from Trump, as he sees his favorability with active military members falter


Authentic wins 2020 Kentucky Derby

  • In an upset, “Authentic” won the 2020 Kentucky Derby on Saturday, edging out the favored “Tiz the Law”
  • The Kentucky Derby, usually held on a Sunday in May, was contested on a warm summer Saturday in front of no fans
  • The final race in the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes, will be held at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland on October 3rd
