Joe Biden sweeps Tuesday’s primaries  

  • Joe Biden won a resounding victory in Florida, Arizona, and Illinois, the three states that held primaries on March 17
  • The results widen the gap between Biden and his rival, Bernie Sanders, with many calling for Sanders to drop out after the most recent loss  
  • Ohio postponed its primary because of coronavirus concerns, becoming the fifth state to do so (Louisiana, Georgia, Kentucky, and Maryland have already announced their delayed elections)


China rescinds American press credentials 

  • China has announced that it will be rescinding the press credentials for American journalists in retaliation for the United States’ restrictions on Chinese journalists
  • The change will impact American correspondents with the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post, with journalists expelled from the country
  • U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo condemned the decision, describing how it will disrupt American access to information regarding the coronavirus in China

Coronavirus has officially spread to all 50 states

  • West Virginia, the last U.S. state free of coronavirus, has declared its first case of COVID-19, marking the deadly virus’s spread to all 50 states, as well as three US territories
  • The death toll has officially surpassed 100 people, most of whom were over age 60


Facebook bug inaccurately blocks links 

  • A bug in the Facebook News Feed spam filter is blocking links to legitimate websites such as Buzzfeed, Medium, and USA Today
  • It is not clear what is specifically triggering the bug and the issue may grow worse as coronavirus forces the company to rely more on artificial intelligence as opposed to human oversight
  • Previously, Facebook pledged to work against coronavirus misinformation online 


FED reveals plan for commercial paper fund to help support the flow of US credit 

  • The Federal Reserve announced Tuesday that it will be issuing short term loans to corporations. The U.S. Treasury will provide $10 billion in credit protection to the FED in an attempt to mitigate the damage done by the coronavirus
  • The plan is similar to what was implemented during the financial crisis of 2008


White House supports COVID-19 cash payments 

  • The Trump administration wants to send out immediate cash payments to Americans in the coming weeks to help with the economic impact of coronavirus
  • The plan, which could cost around 1 trillion dollars, may take some time for a bipartisan decision to be made
  • Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin has warned that if action is not taken quickly, the unemployment rate could reach 20%
