Senate approves bill that requires the disclosure of COVID-19 intel

  • The unanimously approved proposal was offered by Senator Mike Braun and Senator Josh Hawley demanding the federal government to declassify intelligence on the origins of the coronavirus
  • This bipartisan agreement followed one day after President Biden’s orders for U.S. spy agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into whether the virus was released from a Chinese lab
  • If the measure passes the House and is signed by Biden into law, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence will have a 90-day duration to compile and expose any information that associates the Wuhan Institute of Virology and the origin of the disease


Evacuation order warns of volcano eruption in Goma

  • Authorities issued an evacuation order cautioning tens of thousands of people residing in the Congolese city Goma of a potential eruption of the Mount Nyriagongo Volcano
  • The volcano first erupted this past weekend, killing 31 citizens and forcing 30,000 people to flee their homes. The surrounding area has experienced a series of earthquakes since the initial upsurge
  • The recent seismic activity has indicated a presence of magma beneath the surface of the city, as military governor of North Kivu, General Constant Ndima continues to urge people to stay away from the lava that can cause asphyxiation or severe burning

  • CVS joins the list of many other companies around the country that are offering incentives in order to increase the vaccination rates. These businesses aim to help President Joe Biden in his push to get 70% of American vaccinated for COVID-19 by Independence Day
  • The pharmacy’s promotion will begin June 1st and will promote gift cards and prizes from Procter and Gamble consumer goods, dating app Hinge, and Norwegian Cruise Line in a weekly sweepstakes


Nintendo plans on release of upgraded Switch this upcoming fall

  • The assembly of the new Switch device is scheduled to begin as soon as July, with the release of the replacement for the four-year-old game console in September or October
  • Nintendo is forced to compete for their user’s attention due to the new console generation that has been introduced by rivals Sony Group Corp. and Microsoft Corp. With the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X modern speed and performance abilities, The Switch makers plan to upgrade their old console with a 7-inch Samsung Display Co. OLED display and faster Nvidia Corp. graphics
  • Analyst Michael Kanternman from Bloomberg Intelligence says that an upgraded Switch can serve an extremely valuable role in sustaining the lifecycle of the platform, as Sony and Microsoft’s success in mid-cycle console upgrades has motivated Nintendo to keep up with their competitors

Employee of California railyard shoots nine people

  • The shooting took place Wednesday in two different buildings holding mechanics, linemen, and bus and light rail operators. The attacker was identified as 57-year-old Samuel Cassidy, who worked for the agency since 2012
  • Officials report that Cassidy had two semiautomatic handguns and 11 loaded magazines. His locker at the rail yard also revealed a large collection of bomb materials such a detonator cords and precursors for explosions after being searched
  • The shooting has been recorded as the 15th mass killing in the U.S. this year, according to a database provided by The Associated Press, USA Today, and Northeastern University. It was also labeled the deadliest shooting in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1993


Tiger Woods struggles with rehab after car crash

  • The golf icon has been consistently participating in rehab recovery since his near-fatal car accident in February
  • Woods discusses his rehabilitation process in an interview with Golf Digest Magazine, claiming that working through his injuries from the accident has been the worst pain he has ever experienced
  • The rehabilitation facility says that Wood’s recovery process focuses on strengthening his injured leg, yet it is still undetermined if he will need additional procedures to regain full mobility
