Trump tweet claiming covid immunity flagged by Twitter

  • Twitter flagged a post made by Donald Trump on Sunday after he claimed that he is now immune from COVID-19 following his bout with the virus this past week
  • The social media platform claimed that Trump’s tweet violated the Twitter Rules about spreading misleading and potentially harmful information related to COVID-19
  • Trump has a history of his tweets being flagged for misconduct on the site, including instances where he spread misinformation about voting and sharing manipulated media


Paris police station targeted in attacks

  • A group of vandals attacked a police station in the French capital late Saturday night, armed with metal rods and fireworks
  • Roughly 40 people tried to storm the Champigny-sur-Marne station, failing to gain entry but damaging nearby buildings and cars
  • The motive for the attack is currently unknown, with it being the third such attack within the last two years. No arrests have yet been made, though police are attempting to identify the violators


Oreo debuts rainbow cookies in support of LGBTQ+ community

  • The cookies feature a rainbow design, including all seven colors found on the LGBTQ+ flag in celebration of those that identify with the community
  • As well as the new cookie rollout, Oreo, in partnership with PFLAG International, released a short film entitled Proud Parent
  • The cookies will not be sold in stores, rather, given out as a reward of allyship to the LGBTQ+ community, with 10,000 winners selected through social media


Pakistan bans Tiktok

  • Pakistan’s telecom regulator banned Tiktok this past weekend, claiming that the app fails to remove immoral and inappropriate content from its platform
  • Tiktok has been installed upwards of 43 million times in the country, according to Sensor Tower, a research firm, making it Tiktok’s 12th largest market
  • A recent transparency report revealed that the Pakistani government requested the social media company restrict 40 accounts in 2020, though just two have received action

Jaime Harrison breaks Senate fundraising record

  • Democratic Senate candidate Jaime Harrison surpassed the fundraising record in a single quarter, amassing 57 million dollars
  • The record was previously held by Texas Democrat Beto O’ Rourke at 38 million in 2018. O’ Rourke lost his Senate race to Republican Ted Cruz
  • Harrison faces Lindsay Graham in South Carolina in what appears to be one of the more intriguing political races outside of the Presidential election


Broncos vs. Patriots game moved to next Sunday amid COVID outbreak

  • After first being rescheduled to Monday night, the NFL game between the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots is moved to next Sunday after the Patriots recorded an additional positive coronavirus test
  • Players expressed frustration at the game’s sudden postponement, with running back Melvin Gordon saying “Ain't no way we practiced all week and they canceled our game"
  • The NFL shut down the Patriots’ facilities for the third time in ten days as further testing is conducted
