  • An internal document from the Trump administration has predicted that the daily coronavirus deaths will double over the next month
  • As per the document, daily deaths are expected to rise to approximately 3000 per day from the approx. 1750 current toll
  • The White House has rejected these projections and put out a statement claiming that “this data is not reflective of any of the modeling done” by the coronavirus taskforce nor is it “data that the task force has analyzed”

China rejects US claims that coronavirus originated from Wuhan lab

  • China has rejected claims made by the Trump administration that the coronavirus originated from a Wuhan laboratory
  • On Sunday, in an interview with ABC, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo claimed that there was “enormous evidence” that the coronavirus originated in a lab in Wuhan
  • Scientists have rebuked conspiracy theories that suggest that the coronavirus was man-made, citing studies that indicate it originated from wildlife


US Treasury to borrow $3 trillion this quarter

  • The Treasury Department has announced that it will be borrowing a record $3 trillion this quarter
  • The money will be used to subsidize economic rescue efforts as a result of the coronavirus pandemic
  • The total US government debt is currently close to $25 trillion and the current fiscal year’s deficit sits at $744 billion


NYT defeats Ajit Pai as judge orders FCC to provide net neutrality records

  • The NYT has won a lawsuit against the FCC, as a federal judge ruled that the FCC must hand over net neutrality comment records that it earlier refused to share
  • Leading up to the 2017 repeal of net neutrality rules by the FCC, there were more 22 million comments made using stolen identities during the public comment process
  • The NYT filed a FOIA request for server logs related to the public comments, but were rejected by the FCC
  • The request approved by the judge will provide timestamps, originating IP addresses, and user-agent headers

Gov. Newsom says some businesses will reopen Friday, with conditions

  • CA Gov. Gavin Newsom announced on Monday that some of the state’s retail businesses could reopen with conditions if certain criteria are met
  • Newsom said the state will provide further guidance later this week, which will include specific guidelines for low-risk businesses that must be met in order to reopen
  • According to the announcement, clothing, book, music, toy, and sporting goods stores will be allowed to offer curbside pickup if they follow the issued guidelines


Noninvasive coronavirus sensor that can track symptoms

  • A device developed by Northwestern University and the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab can track early signs of coronavirus infection and progression
  • The device is a noninvasive flexible wireless sensor that looks like a Band-Aid and sits where the throat and chest meet
  • The device that can also detect heart rate and temperature and is meant to be peeled off once a day and placed on a wireless charger, which initiates the patch to sync its data with an iPad
