The Lake Observations by Citizen Scientists & Satellites project seeks to better understand how the quantity of water in lakes is changing.
2019 Year in Review
When 2019 began, the LOCSS project had been up and running for just under 2 years. At that point, we were studying a total of 25 lakes in the states of North Carolina and Washington. 2019 was a year of growth for LOCSS. We've reached milestones, doubled the number of study lakes, and even expqanded outside of the United States. We wanted to take quick look back at the year to see how far we've come.
LOCSS began studying lakes in Bangladesh in March 2019. When we began studying these lakes it was not yet possible to incorporate their data onto our website. As of January 14, however, you can now view all data from Bangladesh study lakes on our website.
Any lake height measurements that are provided are useful & help us better understand the lake. But measurements that are taken on certain days are even more useful because we can pair them with satellite data to determine how the volume of water in the lake has changed. To find out when these target dates occur for your lake, follow the link below.
