 Success for our startups

One of the startups from our first cohort, Predina, has recently enjoyed success with a pilot project and attracted investment from a major transport company. As well as working with Data Pitch, who introduced them to investors and provided advice on GDPR and data as well as funding and mentoring, Predina was also helped by the Digital Catapult’s MiGarage programme. You can read about the company’s exciting new project below.

        Met Office forecasts great innovations

One of our most exciting challenges for the next cohort is our Weather and Climate Change challenge. As the startups get ready for their interviews, we asked Richard Carne, Chief Digital Officer with our new Data Provider partners, the Met Office, to explain how they hope Data Pitch will help them realise the value in their data.

Every day the Met Office performs 20 quadrillion calculations and generates more than 4 million forecasts, which make up around 200tb of data.  Working together with our startups, the organisation hopes to improve the management of its data and enhance its usability and usefulness to UK citizens. You can read more from Richard and watch a video about the Met Office’s Big Data Challenge below.

Engaging with investors

Earlier this month TechHub, in collaboration with the ODI and sponsored by Data Pitch, ran an event to help the startup community engage with active angel investors. Over 80 startups applied to be selected for the event, with 20 - including two Data Pitch startups - finally being chosen to meet the 15 investors in a ‘speed dating’ session. We had a great time at the event - thanks to everybody who attended, and to make sure you don’t miss out on future events keep checking our website for more opportunities.
