Educator Supply Giveaway, Pt. 1
CCRx teamed up with the Chicago Teachers Union Foundation this past month to get needed supplies to Chicago teachers who are teaching from home. Almost 500 teachers responded to a survey asking what they needed most. The responses -- Whiteboards! Paper! Markers! Pencils! We held a Giveaway, Pt. 1 and are scheduling a second for later this month. Read more.
CCRx is looking for a couple volunteers to help us assemble Teacher Supplies and Art Kits at our warehouse on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We are planning for Social Distancing and other precautions, but still to have fun. Teachers especially welcome. If you would like to lend a hand, learn more here.
Youth Ambassador Program -- Call for Ambassadors!
This summer, CCRx will work with Professor Renee Kosiarek to launch a Youth Ambassador Program for young adults ages 14-22. In this program, participants will learn more about themselves as leaders while helping CCRx build community through creative reuse. Between July and December, participants will access a variety of online lessons that will help them work from their strengths, set goals, learn more about themselves as leaders and give them tools to become changemakers. Participants can apply themselves or be nominated by a teacher, guardian, friend or mentor. Stay tuned for more info!
FUN + FUNds With BDay Auction
CCRx's first online FUN-draiser was a great success -- we raised needed funds, inspired creativity, built community and had loads of FUN!
The auction celebrated CCRx Founder Barbara Koenen's 60th birthday. While her initial vision was for a big party at the CCRx warehouse, the coronavirus pandemic shifted the celebration to an online auction that in several respects engaged more people, in more varied ways, than a single event!
"I've been blessed with so many generous and creative friends over the years, the auction became a great way to make connections between them through their own creative ideas", said Koenen. The auction featured activities, experiences and services, along with an assortment of art, handcrafted and unusual objects. Read more...
You Count. Take the Census.
For every person counted in Chicago, we stand to gain approximately $1,400 that could be used towards parks, schools, and infrastructure. It adds up!
Overall, 53.7% of all Chicagoans have responded to the Census, and Chicago’s target is a 75% self-response rate. There are about 488,573 households left in Chicago which have not responded.
WhileCovid-19 virus is upon us, CCRx is postponing regular warehouse hours and donations made without an appointment. Stay tuned for special events. Let us know what you are doing -- we'd love to share your creative reuse activities and ideas on our blog, on Facebook and in the enewsletter. Stay creative and stay well!
You are receiving this email because you signed up, attended one of our events, or we thought you would be interested in creative reuse in Chicago. Please share this with others who'd be interested too.
