New MCA Communications Coordinator Named

MCA is pleased to welcome Ruth Bergen Braun from Foothills Mennonite Church as its next Communication Coordinator.

MCA Moderator Brenda Tiessen-Wiens said, “Ruth brings a depth of experience in connecting with people from diverse backgrounds and we look forward to the new lenses that she will bring to our community of congregations!” She brings a variety of attributes to her role including an eye for photography, creative energy, a passion for storytelling, and what she describes as a deep joy for “documenting the life of the church”. Her training includes a Master’s of Education in Counselling Psychology, as well as earlier studies in Journalism Administration.

After some orientation time with June Miller, Ruth will begin her duties the week of June 29. We pray God’s blessing on Ruth as she serves with MCA in this way!

Personnel Committee

Issue #7

One of my favourite quotes is: “There is an unrepeatable grace in the life of each person.”  It doesn’t matter who the person is, what they can or can’t do, what they have or haven’t done, whether they’re kind or mean, pleasant or offensive – this unrepeatable grace is there to be revealed, nurtured, and celebrated.   The closer we live to the heart and will of God, the clearer this unrepeatable grace becomes.  Isn’t this the work of the church – of MCA?  To help each other know who we are in the heart and will of God, so that we can be a transformed and transforming witness to the world around us?  This is one of the things that excites me about being a part of Mennonite Church Alberta, and one of the reasons I said "yes" to serving on the Personnel Committee.

A Prayer from North Edmonton Ministry

Our God, we acknowledge that you have created all people in your image. Over the past few weeks we have again been reminded by street protests in major cities around the world that black people’s lives have not always been treated with respect and human dignity. We want to recognize our own racist attitudes, thoughts, actions and white privilege that many of us have benefited from. We confess our shortcomings and ask for your forgiveness. We pray for real change in our individual hearts and the institutional structures of society at large. We pray that peace and justice would reign in all segments of our society and that the rights of colored and indigenous people will be upheld and that they would be treated with respect, and dignity as human beings created in your image. In the name of Jesus the Prince of Peace we pray. Amen.

Partners in Burkina Faso ask for prayer amid terrorist attacks

Evangelical Mennonite Church of Burkina Faso asks us to pray for the suffering caused by continued terrorist attacks. This past weekend there were again many killings.  Pray for safety for the people and wisdom for the government. People are becoming angry because they see the government taking little action. Mennonite Church Canada works with Evangelical Mennonite Church of Burkina Faso through Africa Inter – Mennonite Mission (AIMM).

Witness workers witness scarcity of food in Philippines due to COVID-19 measures

Continue to pray for the ongoing COVID-19 response coordinated by PeaceBuilders Community, Inc. (PBCI) in Mindanao, Philippines. Witness workers Dann and Joji Pantoja report that many areas in Davao City where they live are severely affected. Food scarcity continues to be a huge challenge in the cities. Pray that God will bless and multiply their efforts to bring food from the farmers into the cities.

Witness workers face stress and uncertainty

Times of uncertainty bring stress and exhaustion to all of us. Please pray for our Witness workers as they deal with change and uncertainty in their own lives and in the lives of those around them. Pray for health, strength and joy as they make decisions and continue their work in uncertain times.

News from Mennonite Church Canada Palestine and Israel Network

Prayer request for peace in Palestine and Israel as threat of annexation looms

Please pray for peace in Palestine and Israel in the coming days. Israel's government has announced it will begin annexing significant parts of the Palestinian territory of the West Bank. The Palestinian people, including Christian partners of Mennonite organizations, are concerned that this violation of international law will further deepen dire human rights abuses, land expropriation and economic injustice they have experience under Israeli military occupation since 1967. Pray for Palestinians, Israelis and advocates around the world who are promoting a durable and just peace, with equal rights and dignity for Israelis and Palestinians alike, using what Palestinian Christians call "the logic of love."

Prayer: God of peace and justice, you have created all people in your image to serve both Creator and creation in love. We lift up the people of Israel and Palestine on the eve of the threatened annexation in the West Bank. May all recognize that the "earth is the Lord's" (Psalm 24:1), and that the forced acquisition and use of the land by one people at the expense of another is far from your will. Strengthen and give courage to those who speak your truth to the powers of this world. Protect the weak and the dispossessed. May your people shine the light of your love and care for this troubled but "holy" land. In the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, Amen.

Make June a Jubilee!

June is Indigenous History Month—a time to intentionally reflect on Indigenous-Settler relationships both past and present; a time to grow in right relations with host peoples and the lands in which we live. To learn more about how we can pursue paths of decolonization visit This month all proceeds will go to Mennonite Church Canada’s Jubilee Fund, which supports Indigenous communities repairing and renewing relationships with ancestral lands (see
