President's Message

(Clive at the helm). How good was Sail Port Stephens for you this year? Hopefully your business benefitted from it in some way, even if only for the spectacle of it. As a competitor it was an extremely well-run event and we had some superb sailing and beautiful weather. There’s more to come with the bigger offshore racers coming to town next weekend and then the smaller Bay racers the weekend starting the 19th out of Soldiers Point. I’ll be taking part in both events and encourage our local businesses to promote themselves to the visiting masses.
Did someone say something about work? Yes, that continues and we all need to be on top of our games to capitalise on any of these opportunities that cross our paths, which of course happens best when we plan ahead. If you’ve missed out so far this year, start planning now for the future. At BPS we’re working hard behind the scenes to create opportunities for our members so keep your eye on the website and the newsletters we send out.  How does your profile look in our Business Directory – is it delivering the message you want – or need? Can we give you a hand?

Welcome to our newest board member Marylou Stubbs!

Marylou is a Director of enrichHR and her team provide human resources and talent sourcing services to organizations across Australia and internationally. She has been leading enrichHR since 2001 and with a successful business career path spanning over 20 years, Marylou brings a wealth of experience across several industries including Professional Services, Construction, Finance, Hospitality, Events and Entertainment, Restaurant / Cafes and many others.
Marylou has worked closely with a range of companies in developing and building their ‘teams of tomorrow’ by implementing proactive Staffing and HR initiatives, including: HR compliance and documentation, on-boarding, tailoring and developing training programs, team building projects, Business and HR advice, change management, delivering staffing solutions, and outplacement at times of downsizing.

Working also as a professional Singer, both nationally and internationally, Marylou owned and managed A Piece of Cake Events which provided entertainment, theming, and concepts to many Corporate and Private Clients.

Charity Networking Golf Event - 19 May

Join Port Stephens FM 100.9 and Business Port Stephens on Friday 19 May to help raise money for the Tomaree Community Hospital Auxiliary and your community radio station while enjoying a beautiful morning networking on the golf course!

It will be a nine hole Ambrose style event with teams of four and all holes being played simultaneously. Grab your workmates and make a day of it - everyone is welcome. But be quick only 72 spots available. 

Entry fee: $65 which includes welcome coffee, nine holes and brunch. Buy your own drinks. NB - Extra cost of club hire is $22 (limited sets), golf carts $28 (carry two people). Please tick the box on your registration if you require these and you will pay directly to the Golf Club on the day.

9:00 – tee off 
11:30 – back to the club house for brunch 
12:00 – silent auction 
12:30 – conclusion of event, stay to network

Nelson Bay Tile Co has been serving Port Stephens for over 40 years. With a newly renovated facade and showroom we now offer and extensive range of tiles, tapware, vanities trade supplies and more. We are so proud of how the showroom has evolved over the last 18month.  We have a new design room available to local designers or builders to use. Our experienced team offer instore complementary design consults to help you achieve your dream result. We pride ourselves on great customer service and honest comprehensive advice. 
 
We like our customers to take the time and visit our showroom multiply times prior to choosing, to get a feel for what is available and perhaps some inspiration. It can be overwhelming if you come into choose tiles and do not have an idea what direction or elements you want to incorporate. Tile prices range anywhere from $30m2 to $130m2 +. Majority of tiles can now be used floor and wall and come in a variety of sizes to suit any space. There are two types of tiles “Rectified and Non-Rectified”. A rectified tile can be grouted with a 1.5ml grout joint making your tiles look seamless , Non rectified have a cushioned edge and normally has a 3ml grout joint.  Grout is now available in a variety of colours to match your tiles.
 
I choose to become a member of BPS so I could get to know more business owners in the area and to be honest the idea of breakfast before work sounded good. My favourite thing would have to be the beach and my favourite local business would be Pet Quarters – always great customer service.

New mural in Nelson Bay

If you haven't been to Donald St East in Nelson Bay lately you should go take a look. Jason and Kerri from Koori Colours Art Gallery have created a beautiful mural to brighten up the wall at the carpark. Jason is truly fascinating to watch in action. The mural tells the story of how Port Stephens came to be. 
Worimi Conservation Lands Dreaming Story by Graeme Russell, Worimi Elder. Artist: Jason Russell, Worimi Man, has painted his form of aboriginal art for over 20yrs.  Take a look at the finished product! A QR code will be available to read the story on your phone.

Grants, rebates and subsidies
Fine Food Australia, the largest food and beverage industry trade show in the southern hemisphere, is returning to Sydney in 2023. NSW-based food and beverage manufacturers now have a special opportunity to submit an EOI for subsidies to exhibit at the event. The NSW Government is offering subsidies of $4,500 to support up to 12 of the state’s premium and niche food and beverage manufacturers to exhibit within the Flavours of NSW zone at the ICC in Sydney between 11–14 September 2023. 
 
In addition to the subsidy, successful businesses will attend a Trade Show Readiness and Marketing workshop on 31 July 2023, providing specialist export and exhibition advice as well as receive assistance from NSW Government business support experts before, at and after the event. Expressions Of Interest (EOI) submissions close at 5pm on 19 May 2023.
