President's Message

This month showed no signs of slowing down for Business Port Stephens with plenty on the agenda for our members. The Member Meet and Greet events have been a huge success over the last few months, with the latest at Taylors Beach. To have Port Stephens Council, Business Port Stephens, Port Stephens Woman in Business, Destination Port Stephens (represented) and The Business Centre all in one room proved to be an incredible asset to our members and saw new connections made. These will be continuing in the New Year as we make plans for Business Port Stephens in 2023.
Business Port Stephens continues to provide a conduit between local business owners, our members and Port Stephens Council.  We have conducted a number of collaborative communications on behalf of Nelson Bay business over the month.  

I would like to welcome all our new members to Business Port Stephens.  Our membership continues to increase by the week; we look forward to welcoming you to our member events in the coming months. 

Kerri and I will be frocking up for the Port Stephens Examiner 2022 Local Business Awards on 22 November.  BPS wishes all our members who have been nominated as finalists all the very best of luck on the evening and we will be cheering everyone on.

Small Business Month!

Business Port Stephens, in collaboration with Port Stephens Council and Port Stephens Women in Business will host a FREE dinner event for small business owners and managers.

Join us as our two speakers Craig Hopper and Tammy Howell, share the importance and positive impact of connection to self first and then others, how to create a healthy workplace culture that is flexible and addresses the wholistic needs of all staff, and how to communicate clearly in a way that fosters honesty, integrity and inclusivity.

Craig Hopper is an expert in the future of leadership: compassionate leadership. He focuses on growth and innovation and is an expert in digital innovation and product development. He has successfully led and coached teams for over 30 years. He has run billion-dollar business units, been CEO of a start-up, runs two small businesses and is an expert in digital products and innovation. Building outstanding teams that last has never been more challenging than in today’s environment. Craig explains how to do the hard stuff with heart and create an environment that enables team success.

Tammy is a "Mental Health First Aid Instructor" and international author of 'The Real Man's Tool Box - A DIY Health Manual For Men'. She is an experienced key note speaker on many topics such as workplace health and is a registered nurse and nutritionist. In the past 15 years Tammy and her team have worked throughout Australia speaking to mine workers, councilmen & women, engineers, electricians, trades apprentices, corporate entities, those with cancer, farmers, local community groups, schools and the general public on everything from their general health, fatigue, fitness and nutrition in ways they could relate, without all the medical jargon.

It's time to get on board for our Christmas sunset cruise!

Business Port Stephens are ready to set sail on their annual Christmas Sunset Cruise! Connect over a cocktail and have a bite to eat while enjoying the beautiful waters of Port Stephens. No official speakers or speeches – just relax and have a good time after a busy year. BPS members and non-members all welcome.

David has been appointed to succeed the successful Trevor Harrison. David comes to the Club from six years as General Manager at Wyong Golf Club with previous experience at Pacific Dunes and Kooindah Waters. He also plays off a handicap of +2 and is a member of the PGA, so he knows his golf.
Says David "I am very pleased to have been appointed General Manager of Nelson Bay Golf Club. Our Clubhouse and Golf course are both ideally located and have an overwhelmingly strong reputation in the Port Stephens area. The Blue Water Grill has an outstanding reputation providing quality dinning for our Restaurant, which also supports our events team to deliver weddings, functions and events of the highest standards. Tomaree Coastal Walk - Stakeholder Reference Group Meeting 

The Tomaree Coastal Walk project team would like to invite you to a face to face meeting with the TCW Stakeholder Reference Group and TCW project team on Friday 11th November 2022 at 1pm at the Tomaree Library and Community Centre.

The meeting will be an opportunity for the project team to provide updates on delivery, completion commitments and signage and interpretation rollout between now and June 2023. The session is proposed for 1 hour and will generally cover the following topics:
-    Delivery Commitments (track and precincts)
-    Delivery Roadmap (track and precincts)
-    Signage and interpretation delivery

The University of Newcastle is currently looking to work with local businesses to support re-training opportunities and upskilling their workforce.

The Pathways and Academic Learning Support Centre is specifically focused on assisting people who may not have experienced higher-education before, or have been away from education for an extended period of time. They offer a range of options to transition people into higher education, from one-week micro-credentials through to full-year Diplomas, that can also be used as stand-alone qualifications.

They can also develop new courses to suit the needs of the community. Most programs are no cost to students and are delivered in a variety of modes (face-to-face & online) to provide maximum flexibility.

Save the environment and our koalas!

Congratulations to our Community Member Port Stephens Koala Hospital as their Return and Earn fundraiser has reached over $6,000 in refund donations! They would like to thank everyone who is donating their 10c refunds by scanning the Return and Earn app when recycling at their local Return and Earn machine. But did you know you can increase these donations by having a dedicated recycle bin for cans and bottles at your work premises? It is not only a great way to increase donations but it also ensures these items don’t go to landfill.
