President's Message

Reading through the draft of this newsletter, I continue to be inspired by all the incredible work Business Port Stephens continues to do by contributing to and supporting our members and business community. It is a pleasure to welcome our new members to the fold. Our membership  continues to grow as we expand into precincts further afield engaging new members and spreading the word of the benefits of becoming a member of Business Port Stephens.  Thank you to our board, and a massive shout out to Kerri for her tireless efforts in keeping BPS a well-oiled machine.
Bring on Elvis! Our first fundraiser for the year is going to be sensational! Thanks to Nelson Bay Cinema and Scotty’s Cinema, Raymond Terrace for their support. We are so pleased to be raising funds for the PCYC in both Raymond Terrace and Nelson Bay.  The work they do and support they offer the youth of the Port is so valuable.  I encourage everyone to share this great event with family, friends and business colleagues and look forward to seeing you on the night.

There is a lot happening on the Small Business front.  Included in this newsletter is some great initiatives and information, a good read.

I have recently returned from ATE (Australian Tourism Exchange) in Sydney and the support from travellers for sustainable and eco-friendly destinations is high on their travel radar.  I had the pleasure of mentioning on several occasions the great initiative of Plastic Free Port Stephens and the efforts being made by local business to eliminate single use plastics.  This was very well received by buyers and all the agents that visited Port Stephens over the two weeks of ATE. Great work Port Stephens!

How many of you 'got the feels' reading about Oakvale Wildlife Parks great program to pay Dine & Discover vouchers forward? Absolutely sensational, well done to all the team at Oakvale.

I look forward to catching up with everyone at the fundraiser event.
Mel Turner
President

Tass Taxis from Bay Living and Garden
Tell us about you and Bay Living and Garden?

I had spent around 30 years working as a landscape gardener and it had started to take its physical toll. I really loved working with plants and so I had to think of another way I could continue to do that. I started Bay Living and Garden almost 4 years ago, with the help of my partner as well as my sister, Maria. They both bring different skills and experience to the business.
We offer beautiful homewares, pots of all sizes and of course, stunning plants. With my horticultural background, I have suppliers and growers all over the state and I hand pick each of the plants for the store.

Shout out some of your favourite PS businesses? Where do you find yourself eating and shopping here in Port Stephens?

Sunset and Vine for lunch or dinner is fabulous. As I said, I love to go out for dinner and I really enjoy Rick Steins at Bannisters, The Anchorage, Shoal Bay Country Club, Zenith, The Buoys as well as Café Kin and Little Nel. As for shopping, I have to say our lovely neighbours, Burbridge and Burke and Entice You for interesting homewares and gifts and Cameron Stewart for the most comfortable shoes.
