Hello all! The Ides of March are upon us and it's time to catch you up on our latest shenanigans. We know it's been awhile since we've reached out, but it's because we have been busy, busy, busy!
Since the end of 2018, we have been all over the country—premiering at our first film festival with the ACLU short and filming with new participants near and far!
Read all about what we've been up to below.
IN THE NEWS:
*We are deeply saddened and troubled by the decision of the United Methodist Church to oppose same-sex marriage and gay clergy. We stand with the affirming clergy and churches who may suffer the consequences for their decision to love and accept all.
*We love the silent statement of support for trans youth Don Cheadle made on Saturday Night Live. We need more allies like this.
*Sara Cunningham was featured as a stand-in mom in NowThis's beautiful online piece. Have you seen it? If not, please watch below! Again—all the wedding and pre-wedding footage throughout the piece is ours!
*This winter Daresha joined the 2019 cohort for the Creative Capital Awards! We are so pleased that Mama Bears was one of fifty projects selected for this new season. Read about all the projects here.
Mama Bears was also selected to join the 2019 cohort for Chicken & Egg's Eggcelerator Lab! Learn about all the films chosen here.
Both of these incredible opportunities will provide vitally important financial support as well as mentorship for the film and for Daresha's career as a director. We couldn't be happier (or prouder)!
*Guess what? Daresha and Laura spent the week at SXSW, where the ACLU short on Kimberly & Kai Shappley premiered! Kai took the red carpet by storm and showed us all how to "strike a pose."
