Hello again from the Mama Bears team! Although we just reached out, we're bursting with good news and more important—we need your help!!!

*We were glad to see the Mormon church reversed its 2015 decision that classified people in same-sex marriages as "apostates." Under this new ruling, children of parents who identify as LGBTQ may now be blessed and baptized. We hope this will lead to more acceptance, love, and affirmation from the LDS church.

*The mama bears are in the news! Here's an article from the Tennessean on a recent gathering in Nashville, TN.

*Daresha's short ACLU doc Texas Strong  was nominated for a Webby! The New York Times calls the Webbys the “Internet’s highest honor," and the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences says our work "has been singled out as one of the five best in the world in this category." This year nearly 13,000 entries were received from 70 countries worldwide. And we need your help!

Daresha’s piece is nominated in two categories, one of which will be decided by a public vote! So please, vote here by April 18th and encourage everyone you know to do the same!
*To continue the good news, we are delighted to report that Daresha was chosen as a fellow for Blade of Grass! We'll be working with them to roll out our ambitious impact campaign and are honored to belong to such an amazing cohort.

*We have so many amazing updates on the talented women who we've partnered with on Mama Bears. To start, our beloved DP, Amy Bench, received a SXSW Special Jury Recognition for her beautiful short film A Line Birds Cannot See. You can watch the trailer here. Congratulations, Amy!
*Our multi-talented camerawoman, Chelsea Hernandez, also had an amazing time at SXSW with her feature documentary, Building the American Dream. She received a standing ovation at her premiere and the rave reviews have begun to pour in. Check out the festival schedule for her film here. Congratulations, Chelsea!

*On May 4-May 18th, 2019, Sara Cunningham and Katrina Kalb will be embarking on their third annual Free Mom Hugs Tour across the country! Following the example of Harvey Milk, they will make ten city stops—destination San Francisco on Mothers Day.

To support the Tour of Hope, you can donate here. :)

We hope you all are having a warm and wonderful spring. We'll be back with more soon.

Daresha & Laura
